यस पटकको विश्वकपमा पहिलो आश्चर्यजनक नतिजा निकाल्न सफल भएको छ पहिलो पटक विश्वकपमा भाग लिँदै गरेको ट्रिनिडाड एन्ड टोबागोले। १० जनामा सीमित भए पनि उसले स्वीडेन जस्तो युरोपेली फुटबलको ‘पावर हाउस’लाई ०-० को बराबरीमा रोक्न सफल भएको छ। कसैले पनि सोचेका थिएनन् यो खेलको नतिजा यति अप्रत्याशित आउँछ भनी। धेरैले सोचेका थिए- भारी गोलको अन्तरले स्वीडेनले जित्नेछ। तर बिना गोलको बराबरीमा नै यो टुंगियो। अब अर्को खेल हुँदैछ विश्वकपका दावेदारमध्येका एक अर्जेन्टिना र अफ्रिकी देश आइभोरी कोस्टबीच। के यसमा पनि अप्रत्याशित नतिजा आउला ? अर्जेन्टिनालाई जित्नै पर्ने दबाब छ। तर पहिलो पटक विश्वकपको यात्रा गरेको आइभोरी कोस्टलाई कुनै दबाब छैन। (मेरो संसार/1145 pm NST)

Yes, Argentina did win the match; but they had to have more goal shots per goal than that of Ivory Coast. Itýs the same problem they had in World Cupý02: they would possess the ball most of the time, but theyýd fail to score. This time also, they dribbled the ball in the D-box and around, but when it came to scoring a goal, they failed a number of times. They absolutely need to improve on their goal scoring ability. Itýs like the Nepalese Cricket team: they have good bowling skills, but when it comes to making runs, they are much less successful. Thatýs not as bad as in the case of football because in cricket a match can be won with superb bowling alone, but in football one absolutely needs to score a goal to win, else the match would end in a draw, unlike in cricket where thereýs no draw (in one day crickets).
One thing that completely turned me off was the ESPN commentators, who kept on reminding the viewers of the USA vs Czech Republic match, which was to be held two days later. What the heck was wrong with those chauvinist commentators? Of course, since it is an American channel, and since the US is playing in the world cup, it is natural for them to remind people of the upcoming match. But it was way too much to keep on talking about the same USA vs Czech Republic, while it was Argentina and Ivory Coast that were playing on the ground.
Anyway, Iým all for Argentina. They must win the World Cup!
