Thousands of troops, arms outside camps: Prachanda

BAGLUNG, March 13 – Maoist Chairman Prachanda said on Monday that thousands of his party’s combatants and weapons are still outside the cantonments as they “couldn’t meet United Nations standards” to be registered with the latter.
Stating that they had trouble storing a large number of weapons inside the cantonments, Prachanda also disclosed that Maoists still have “technical human resources” outside the cantonments who have the ability to launch “massive attacks” simultaneously at several places on a single night.
The latest statement from the Maoist chief is likely to set off a vehement political debate about whether they qualify to join the government.
The international community, including India and the United States, has reiterated that the arms management process should be complete and credible before they can join the government.
“We launched our movement with just two 3-0-3 rifles and home-made weapons. Now we have registered the weapons as per UN instructions,” Prachanda said during an interaction with journalists, human rights activists and local business community following his address to a mass meet held in the district headquarters Baglung Bazar. “However, thousands of weapons that we could not register as per the UN’s requirements are still outside. We are facing problems with their storage.”
He also made it clear that CPN-Maoist is for peace and those “human resources” and weapons are not for derailing the peace process.
But, Prachanda did not clarify the types of weapons they have that UN monitors didn’t register.
Earlier, Prachanda had said in Butwal that “…the rivers swept away our arms and fire burnt them down…” as people from every quarter of society raised questions about their intention of registering “very less” number of weapons in comparison to their combatants (i.e. 1:30).
“Besides combatants staying inside the cantonments, we have a large number of weapons and skilled manpower who are able to make such weapons and launch simultaneous attacks at several places on a single night,” he said, adding, however, that they are not trying to create havoc with that force. The recently-formed Young Communist League (YCL) was formed with the leadership of the combatants themselves, according to him.
Prachanda in his address to the mass meet earlier stated if the eight-party meet scheduled to be held on Tuesday fails to finalize the formation of interim government and declare the date for constituent assembly (CA) elections, they would declare the country a republic from the interim parliament as well as from the streets simultaneously.

It has been very insulting for most of the respectful Nepalese to see stupid Paras as the prince. How this useless criminal has not been ripped off his title. Why the Nepalese government is wasting time and money on him his criminal father. Why there is moral, economic and ethical sense in army and the government of Nepal. It appears to me that someday people will be forced to take the decision and they will gather enough courage to kick gyanendra and his family out of the palace to tundikhel to give the proper justice. After that day most polical issues will be less important and the useless parties and so called neta including the maoist will get some lesson how the people can take power from rebels, swindlers and the criminals.

Who can believe that the king and the crown prince are staying in low profile when their fates are going to be decided by the first session of CA.
I strongly believe the king and the crown prince will neither relinquish their authorities nor abdicate the throne so easily. They will carry out any action as long as the position of monarchy institution is not secured in new constitution (adopted after the election of CA). The monarchists have all means (money, weapons) and trusted loyal army (RA) and they will definitely strike back and they must be calculating a drastic action to save the monarchy institution. It looks the end game is coming violently.
We have a rich king in the poor country. The monarchy institution has no place in 21 century Nepal. It has to be abolished before all troubles will cease.
