सन् १९८३ मा संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिकाका राष्ट्रपति जोन केनेडीको र १९८६ मा स्वीडेनका समाजवादी प्रधानमन्त्री उलफ पाल्मेको रहस्यमय हत्या भएको थियो। ती हत्याकाण्डका बारेमा दुई दशकपछि पनि आज त्यहाँका सञ्चार माध्यम तथा अनुसन्धाताहरूले अनुसन्धान र चर्चा गरिरहेका छन्।
तर छवर्ष मात्र अघि नेपालको नारायणहिटी दरबारमा भएको माथिका भन्दा भयावह आम हत्याकाण्डका बारेमा नेपालमा एक शब्द लेख्ने वा बोल्ने पत्रकार, अनुसन्धानकर्ता, इतिहासकार, अधिकारकर्मी तथा राजनीतिज्ञ भेटिन छाडिएका छन्। नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डको वार्षिकी चलिरहेको छ अहिले, तर कहीँ कतै यस सम्बन्धी समाचार शीर्षक देखिन्नन्। नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डको सत्यतथ्य बाहिर आओस् र वास्तविक दोषीले सजायँ पाऊन् भन्ने अभिलाषाका साथ १९ जेठ २०५८ यताका सडक प्रदर्शनहरूमा लगातार नारा लगाउँदै आएका न्यायप्रेमी नेपालीहरूका लागि योभन्दा दुःखको कुरा केही हुन सक्दैन।
स-साना पत्रपत्रिकाहरूले नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डका बारेमा फाट्टफुट्ट चर्चा गरे तापनि मूलधारका प्रकाशन भनिने संचार माध्यमहरूले एकै शब्द खर्चिन छाडिसकेका छन्। यसो हुनुमा कतिपय पत्रकारहरू सो हत्याकाण्डलाई ढाकछोप गर्न चाहने तत्वहरूको हातमा “बिकिसकेको” कारणले होला भने कतिपय पत्रकारहरू स्वयं बितेको कुरालाई खासै वास्ता नगर्ने “नेपाली मानसिकता”को कारणले हो भन्दा अत्युक्ति हुने छैन।
नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डलगत्तै सार्वजनिक गरिएको एकमात्र अफिसयिल तर कुनै पनि स्वतन्त्र नागरिकले विश्वास नगरेको रिपोर्टले तत्कालीन युवराज दीपेन्द्रलाई हत्यारा ठहर्याएको थियो। सोही कथित रिपोर्टलाई आधार बनाएर नेपालका धेरै जानेमानेका अखबार तथा तिनमा कार्यरत पत्रकारहरूले दीपेन्द्रलाई हत्यारा देखाउँदै समाचार लेखे र अतिरिक्ताङ्कै निकाले। बीबीसी, सीएनएन तथा भारतीय मूलप्रवाहका संचारमाध्यमहरूले पनि सोही अफिसियल रिपोर्टलाई “अतिरञ्जना” गरिरहे। नैतिकता र भ्रष्टाचारको हदैसम्मको प्रश्नचिन्ह यी संचारमाध्यम तथा पत्रकारहरूको नाउँमा भविष्यमा समेत “पहेँलपुर” भएर लागिरहने छ।
तर ढाकछोपका कोटी-कोटी प्रयासका विपरित स्वतन्त्र नागरिकहरू आज पनि ज्ञानेन्द्रलाई नै सो हत्याकाण्डको नाइके ठान्दछन् र एउटा भरपर्दो स्वतन्त्र छानवीन आयोगले छानवीन गरी रिपोर्ट सार्वजनिक नगरेसम्म त्यसो ठानिरहने छन्। ज्ञानेन्द्रलाई राजा बन्न बाटो छेक्ने सबैलाई कत्लेआम पारिनु, पारिवारिक रात्रिभोज भनिए पनि ज्ञानेन्द्रको परिवारलाई भने केही नहुनु, राजा वीरेन्द्र, ऐश्वर्य एवं दीपेन्द्रका शबहरू कुनै राजकीय समारोह बिना समाधिस्थ गरिनु, ज्ञानेन्द्र र पारसको इतिहास अपराधिक हुनु, हत्याकाण्डपछि मानसिक सन्तुलन खल्बलिएर नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डका बारेमा जथाभावी बोलिरहने भनिएकी अधिराजकुमारी प्रेक्षाको रारादहमा रहस्यमय मृत्यु हुनु जस्ता कारणहरू नै ज्ञानेन्द्रलाई सो हत्याकाण्डका नाइके ठान्ने बलिया आधारहरू हुन्। कुनै राजकुमार होस् वा सर्वसाधारण युवक, उसले वैवाहिक विवादको कारणले आफ्ना बाबु, आमा लगायत एक दर्जन नातेदारहरूलाई कत्लेआम पारेर आत्महत्या गर्ने तर्क ज्ञानेन्द्र र उनका मतियारहरूले हजार रट लगाए पनि पत्यारिलो देखिन्न।
आज नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डको ६ वर्ष बितेको छ र नेपाल गणतन्त्र नेपाल वा संघीय लोकतान्त्रिक गणतन्त्र नेपालमा रूपान्तरित हुने मोडमा छ। खुलेर राजतन्त्रको बचाउ गर्न चाहने मानिस भेट्टाउन मुश्किल छ आज। एक वर्षभन्दा लामो यो गणतन्त्रमय वातावरणमा ज्ञानेन्द्र, पारस वा राजसंस्थाको वकालत गर्नु समाजद्वारा वर्जित कार्य झैँ मानिन्छ। नेतृत्व तहका सबै महानुभावहरू २ सय ३८ वर्षेखि जनताको शोषण गर्ने राजसंस्थालाई नष्ट पार्नुपर्छ भन्छन्। प्रधानमन्त्री नै त नभनौं, तर मन्त्रीदेखि अन्तरिम विधायकसम्म, नेपाली कांग्रेसदेखि माओवादीसम्म, पत्रकारदेखि मानवअधिकारवादी संस्था सम्मका अगुवाहरू ज्ञानेन्द्र र पारसलाई अपराधी भनेर आरोप लगाउँछन्, तर उनीहरूले गरेको भनिएको सबैभन्दा ठूलो अपराध नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डको छानवीन गरी अपराधीलाई न्यायको कठघरामा उभ्याउने कुरालाई एउटा एजेण्डाको रूपमा अघि सार्दैनन्।
अन्तरिम विधायकहरूले विभिन्न माग राखेर कयौं साता संसद अवरुद्ध पारे, तर संसद अवरुद्ध पार्ने कारणको सूचीमा नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डको छानवीन गर्ने माग परेन। राजतन्त्रको कुनै पनि स्वरूप राख्न नचाहने नेकपा माओवादी पनि नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डको सवालमा चूपचाप छ। न त कट्टर लोकतान्त्रिक गणतन्त्रवादीका रूपमा आम जनताले मानेका नागरिक समाजका देवेन्द्रराज पाण्डे र कृष्ण पहाडीहरूले नै नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डको छानवीनका लागि जोड दिएका छन्। वास्तवमा संसारलाई नै स्तब्ध र चकित पार्ने भयावह नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्ड नेताहरूले बेलाबखत भाषणहरूमा श्रोताहरूको ताली खाने मसलाभन्दा केही हुन सकेन।
नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डको सत्यतथ्य प्रकाशमा ल्याउन अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय स्वतन्त्र न्यायिक छानवीन समिति नै बनाउनु आवश्यक छ। तर यसका लागि जनताको भावनाविपरित राजतन्त्रको पक्षमा अण्टसण्ट बोलिरहने प्रधानमन्त्री गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालाको नेतृत्वमा रहेको सरकारको कानमा लरतरले वतास लाग्ने छैन। नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्ड छानवीन आयोग गठन गराउन सडक र संसदबाट एकजुट भएर आन्दोलनको आँधीबेहरी नै ल्याउनुपर्छ। तर कसैले त्यसो गर्ने छाँट देखिन्न।
केनेडी र पाल्मेको हत्याको सवालमा कतिपय अनुसन्धाताहरूको नतिजा अमेरिकी गुप्तचर संस्था सीआईएतर्फ सोझिएकोले सत्यतथ्य पत्ता लगाउन सजिलो नहोला। तर नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डका नाइकेका रूपमा आरोपित ज्ञानेन्द्रको हैसियत सीआईको जस्तो शक्तिशाली नभई ग्राउण्ड जिरोमा झरिसकेको अवस्थामा उनका अपराधहरूलाई पत्र-पत्र केलाउन सकिने अवस्था छ। उनले गरेका तमाम अपराधहरूमध्ये कुनै एकको मात्र छानवीन गरी उनलाई सदाका लागि नक्खुबासी बनाउने स्वर्णिम अबसर छ।
तर यस्तो सुअवसरमा समेत नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डका बारेमा एक शब्द नलेख्ने गणतन्त्रवादी पत्रकार, एक शब्द नबोल्ने गणतन्त्रवादी नेता प्रचण्ड, बाबुराम भट्टराई, माधव नेपाल, नरहरि आचार्य, गगन थापा, लिलामणि पोखरेल, अमिक सेरचन, नारायणमान बिजुक्छेदेखि नागरिक समाजका देवेन्द्रराज पाण्डे र कृष्ण पहाडीहरू सबैलाई वीरेन्द्रको मृतात्माले होइन, न्याय र परिवर्तन चाहने साढे दुई करोड नेपाली जनताको तन मनले भनिरहेको छ, “धिक्कार छौ तिमीहरू सबै।” बरू इलेक्ट्रोनिक माध्यममै सीमित किन नहोस्, उमेश श्रेष्ठहरू र कथात्मक रचनामै किन नहोस्, कृष्ण अविरलहरू नारायणहिटी हत्याकाण्डको सत्यतथ्य खोज्नेतिर समय लगानी गरी आम नेपाली नागरिकको कोटी-कोटी सलामीको भागिदार बनेका छन्।

Dear Kumar Jee,
Thanks for thought provoking blog. There should have been an impartial investigation, at least, now on palace massacre. Our leaders should have come forward to ratify their already published ideas. But, they have not done so. It is really startling.
Anyway, I am hopeful that your blog will take our leaders of their cosy slumber to face the reality.

Negligence of rule of law
Kumar ji has brought the important point that is behaviour of Nepalese people to forget past incidents very soon.It is sometime good and it is sometime bad. It is good probably to forget tragedy in personal matter. But something that is concerned with history as last palace massacre it may not be good to forget it very soon. His hint is very important for establishing the system of rule of law in our soceity.
This behaviour forgetting is working badly with
our political leaders to be lukewarm in their attitude. In 1989 we had movement. We general people fought against Panchayat System. After winning power by parliamentarians they repeated the history of forgetting past and they did not punish legally those currupted Panchas. In stead of that they had given them the chance to come in power to be prime minister. This behaviour made parliamentarians to
be more currupted overtaking the scale of Panchas. We have system changed but curruption is rooting much deep down. We wanted curruption free soceity but opposite happened. They changed the system and made new system suitable for more and more curruption. If we do not practice to put currupted poeple to in front of justice, it will be difficult for our soceity to be transformed democratically. In democracy everybody knows responsibility and political right come side by side. Fact is that we find negligence of rule of law with parliamentarians as well.
This negligence is projecting in Palace massacre too. We can take it in the form extension of Malik report. Negligence is going on further.Raymajhi report is submitted but remaining holy.
Implementation of rule of law is neglected. No doubt it is providing negative wisdom to the people to kill people in our country as a whole. Killing is spreding.
SABADHAN to the Parliamentarians
In democracy, we general people are sovereign power. We have different rights. We are motivated by not only political right and economical right but we are motivated by right to knowledge also. Our mind and brain and heart feel much exicitement more than with money and voting power in knowing new ideas. We are governed by desire to know the truth around our every day life changing moment by mement. Every human being is motivated by these basic desires and rights.If our rights are denied or unfulfilled or neglected, one day certainly people get either frustrated or get much angry. It’s result will be not positive.

Good for nothing!
This is a very special characteristic of a Nepali. We don’t trust others and we can’t do anything on our own. A nepali can’t believe, “man on moon” usless he himself steps on moon.But, sadly a Nepali will not be able to travel to moon (atleast in today’s contex).This depicts the true attitude of a Nepali. All the non-believers of report of the official Probe team should have been in the palace during the massacre to clear up this hassle.Otherwise,we are not to to give up, are we?
If we don’t trust the then official probe, then lets realize that problem lies on our mindset.I think, it was the maximum capability of this nation with its best possible efforts. Had we been not satisfied with the probe result, it would be much wiser if we were to take up the matter and bore our brains prior to Janaaadolan II, not after the end of the monarchy. What’s the point? Do we want king’s rule back again?
Why so much of botheration for something that we do not desire?
I guess, its none of our business to plunge into the matter again and again which has nothing to do with the true spirit of a republic nation. And, besides, the living members of the royal family are in much more grief than anybodyelse who just goes on weaving stories.
We don’t want Monarchy, but palace massacre should not be the major cause for discarding monarchy. If we just go on advocating and sympathising for late kings,then we must accept that we are the biggest hypocrites ever.
I am of the opinion that the culprit was nobody but Dipendra and thats the end of it. Haven’t we heard a single homicidal case of killing own family members before and after? Wake up people!
Dipendra was a human being, not a god. And, he has already paid the price.

Comparing JFK and Olof Palme’s murder with Birendra and family’s massacre is laughable. Both JFK and Palme did so much for their people and the rest of the world too. Birendra might be better than Gyanendra but there is hardly anything good he did, except his role as ceremonial monarch after 2046 andolan, therefore the best thing Birendra did was ‘keeping quiet and doing nothing’. Gyanendra on other hand couldn’t even do that role of doing nothing properly, so time to get rid of him and monarchy forever.

What else can the republican leaders do? It’s not right to blame them for not doing anything about the massacre incident because they have no basis to talk about it. There should be professional independent investigators who should find out the result. In fact an independent committee was formed consisting of then supreme court CJ, taranath and makune but makune declined to be part of it. Anyway the findings of that committee doesn’t sound too believing.
I can believe dipendra did it himself but there are few important questions unanswered.
