मानव विकास सूचकांकको आधारमा नेपालभन्दा ३४ स्थान पछाडि रहेको इथियोपियाको यात्राले मेरो मानसपटलमा एउटा विशिष्ट महत्व राख्न थालेको छ। यसका केही आधारभूत पक्षहरु छन् जसलाई म यहाँ छोटकरीमा राख्न चाहन्छु।
पीएचडी अध्ययनको क्रममा नोभेम्बर १६ तारिखमा हामी इथियोपियातर्फ लाग्यौँ। Tropical ecology लाई नजिकबाट अध्ययन गर्न भनी तोकिएको excursion programme लाई मूर्त रूप दिन हामी ६ देशका १६ जना विद्यार्थीको एउटै रोजाई भयो इथियोपिया। अरुले किन रोजे यो देश, उनीहरुलाई नै थाहा होला। तर मैले यो देश रोज्नुका पछाडि केही पृथक कारणहरु थिए। यो देश र मेरो देशलाई मैले धेरै कारणहरुले गर्दा समान रूपमा हेर्ने गरेको छु। पहाडी मुलुक, प्राकृतिक स्रोतसाधनमा धनी, निकै समयसम्म अधिराज्यको रूपमा रहेको, कुनै शक्तिशाली राष्ट्रले उपनिवेश बनाउन नसकेको, हाम्रै जस्तो गरिबी र निकै लामो समयदेखि राजनीतिक अस्थिरता झेलिरहेको यो देशको भ्रमण मेरो निम्ति निकै रोमाञ्चक थियो।
अर्लान्डा विमानस्थलबाट रातिको उडानपूर्व मलाई के लागिरह्यो भने म एउटा यस्तो मुलुक जाँदैछु जुन मेरो देशभन्दा निकै पछाडि छ। मेरो देशभन्दा गरिब छ, मानिसहरुमा निराशा होला। अनि धेरै मुश्किलको सामना गर्नुपर्ला मैले। म बिरामी पर्न सक्छु, मेरा सामानहरु चोरी हुन सक्छ्न, मलाई बाटोमा आपराधिक समूहहरुले लुट्न सक्छ्न आदि जस्ता धेरै कुरा मेरो मनमा खेलिरहेका थिए। उडान अवधि भर यिनै सोचाई सँगसँगै भोलिपल्ट बिहान करिब ८ बजे हामी इथियोपियाको बोले इन्टरनेशनल एअरपोर्टमा अवतरण गर्यौँ। यही बिहानी नै मेरो निम्ति अविस्मरणीय बिहानी बन्यो। किनकि मेरा सारा सोचाइ बिस्तारै ग़लत साबित हुन थाले। बोले एअरपोर्टको विशिष्टताको अगाडि त्रिभुवन इन्टरनेशनल एअरपोर्ट फिका लाग्न थाल्यो मलाई। संसारको प्रायः सबै महादेशसँग एथियोपियन एयरलाइन्सको सीधा उडान सुविधाले मलाई मेरो नेपाल एअरलाइन्सको हविगत याद दिलायो। सोचेभन्दा धेरै गुणा बढ़ी आशा बोकेका मानिसहरु देखिन थाले । विशाल अनि आधुनिक एअरपोर्ट, सुन्दर दृश्य, हँसिला मानिसहरुले हामीलाई देखाएको मधुर व्यवहारसँगै सुरु भयो मेरो इथियोपियाको भ्रमण, जुन सोचे भन्दा सम्पूर्ण रूपमा भिन्न थियो।
यात्रा अवधिभर मेरो दिमागमा एउटा विशाल अनि डरलाग्दो प्रश्नले डेरा जमायो- के हामी वास्तव मै यिनीहरू भन्दा सुखी छौँ त? यो प्रश्नले मलाई अहिलेसम्म छोडेको छैन । मलाई गाह्रो परिरहेको छ यो पत्ता लगाउन कि दुःखी को? पछाडि को? हामीहरु कि यिनीहरू ? मलाई डर लागिरहेछ यो महसूस गर्न कि कहीँ हामी संसार कै सबैभन्दा दुःखी नागरिक त होइनौँ? हामी भन्दा पछाडि पनि कोही छ र? मेरो त्रासका केही कारणहरु छन्, जसलाई म अब छोटो रूपमा प्रस्तुत गर्दछु।
यो मुलुकको सबैभन्दा पिछ्डिएको Awasha province को झण्डै २००० किमिको मोटर र तीन दिनको घोडायात्रापछिको मेरो बुझाईमा मैले उनीहरूभन्दा आफूलाई निकै पछाडि पाएँ। १४ दिनको इथियोपियाको बसाई अवधिभर हामीले कहिले पनि बन्द को सामना गर्नु परेन। पेट्रोल र डिजेलको अभाव महसूस गर्नु परेन। बरु युरोपको सम्झना दिलाउने पेट्रोल पम्पहरुले रोमाञ्चित गरायो। कर्फ्यु र प्रशासनिक हस्तक्षेपको सामना गर्नु परेन। चक्काजाम, होटल बन्द, ट्याक्सी जाम, गाड़ी जाम, घोडा जाम, पसल बन्द जस्ता बन्दहरु हामीले अनुभव गर्न पाएनौँ। संक्षेपमा हामीलाई कुनै दिन विरानो महसूस भएन । यसको उल्टो बरु मलाई शान्ति समझौतापछि पनि आफ्नै देशमा विरानो भएको याद आयो । एक-एक हप्ता बाटोमा अलपत्र परेको अनुभवले जिस्काउन थाल्यो। कयौँ पटक विमानस्थलदेखिको पैदल यात्राको अनुभवले मन अमिलो बनायो। हेटौडादेखि विराटनगरको यात्रा गर्न लागेको पाँच दिनले गिज्याउन थाल्यो। काठमाडौँमा दिनदहाडै पड्केको बमले मलाई तर्साउन थाल्यो। नारायणघाटबाट काठमाडौँ आउन लाग्दाको समयको चक्काजामको कारण ले तीन दिन नारायणघाटमा बस्नु परेको अनुभव ताजा हुन थाल्यो।
ट्याक्सीमा छुटेको झोला करिब दुई घण्टापछि माफ़ी माग्दै ड्राइभरले फिर्ता गर्दाको दृश्यले मलाई हाम्रा ट्याक्सी ड्राइभर दाजुभाइले ट्याक्सी मिटर बिगारेर ठगेको अनुभवले लाज लाग्न थाल्यो। ‘तपाई लाई गार्हो भयो जस्तो छ दिनुस झोला म बोकिदिन्छु’ भन्दै सयेशले देखाएको सहानुभूतिले मलाई मेरा दाजुभाइले टुरिस्टबाट जबर्जस्ती असुल गरेको चन्दाको याद आयो। होटलवाला ले गरेको हड्तालको कारण मेरो प्रोफेसरले काठमाडौँमा बास बस्न नपाएको याद आयो। मुस्लिम र इसाईबीचको सयौँ वर्षदेखिको सुमधुर सम्बन्ध देख्दा मलाई नेपालगन्जको आगो र कपिलवस्तुमा भएको नरसंहारले तर्सायो। उनीहरूले धूमधामसँग आफ्नो संवत् २००० ( मिलेनियम इयर) मनाएको देख्दा, हरेकले राष्ट्रिय झण्डाप्रति देखाएको श्रद्धा अनुभव गर्दा मलाई सिराहामा आफ्नो राष्ट्रिय झण्डा जलेको दृश्यले लखेटिरह्यो ।
Research and Development मा इथियोपियाको संलग्नता, राष्ट्रले research and dvelopment मा लगाएको लगानी, रिसर्चप्रति राष्ट्रले देखमएको विश्वास, विश्वविद्यालयका प्रोफेसरहरुमा देखिएको आत्मविश्वास र विद्यार्थीहरुको मेहनत देख्दा मलाई मेरो सरकार, मेरो विश्वविद्यालय, हाम्रा विद्यार्थीहरु अनि गुरुवर्ग सबै एकैचोटी याद आयो। सबैभन्दा बढ़ी त हाम्रा रिसर्च इन्स्टिच्युटहरुको दुर्दशाले खुबै पिरोल्यो।
धेरै देखे मध्ये थोरै कुराहरु हुन् यी त। मानव विकास सूचकांक म बुझ्दछु। 0.367 र 0.526 बीचको अन्तर मलाई राम्रै थाहा छ। तर जब मानिसको दैनिकी रोकिन्छ, तब मलाई लाग्छ ठूलो विकास सूचकांकले महत्व राख्दैन। त्यसैले बन्द, जाम, हड़तालजस्ता कारणले भारी बोक्नेले भारी नपाउने, पढाउनेले पढाउन नपाउने, पढनेले पढ़न नपाउने, बिरामीले अस्पताल जान नपाउने, कर्मचारीले अफिस जान नपाउने मात्र हैन कि भिखारीले भीख माग्न समेत नपाउने हाम्रो देश अगाडि की पछाडि? म अझै असमञ्जस मा छु, मलाई गार्हो भएको छ खुट्याउन कि म दुःखी कि उ दुःखी? म यदि सुखी भए दुःखी को? मेरो हातमा रहेको Human Development Report लाई म कसरी बुझौं?

विदेशमा जाँदा त्यहाँका विकास र राम्रा कुराहरु ग्रहण गरेर आउनु पर्छ। त्यहाँका कुरा हेरेर आफूलाई हीनभावनामा ग्रस्त बनाएर आउने हैन। आफूलाई तल पारेर आउने हैन। इथियोपियाबाट सिकेका राम्रा कुराहरु राखेको भए तपाईँको यो बखानको अर्थ रहन्थ्यो । तर तपाईँले त नेपाललाई खत्तम देशका रुपमा व्याख्या गरेर इथियोपियाको प्रशंसै प्रशंसा गर्नुभएको छ। मेरो यसमा गम्भीर आपत्ति छ । कर्ण शाक्यको जस्तो सकारात्मक सोचको विकास गर्नुस्, जो अमेरिकाका सडकमा हिँड्दा पनि नेपालै राम्रो सोच्छ । तपाईँले उहाँको सोच पुस्तक पढ्नु भएको छैन भने यही मेरो संसारबाट डाउनलोड गरेर पढिहाल्नुस् ।

This article is veery nice and realistic one in the sense that the aurthor’s vist to Ethiopia was a very short one. In contrast it may not be the same with Ethiopia, if same Ethiopian pay short visit to Nepal may feel Nepal is better than thier country. Its just a matter of perception. We donot want to accept even a slight negative comment about our country thats why so many people do not like this article, but reality bites folks. Mr. Gjendra says about SOCH by Karna that book is bullshit. Its only the nonsense thaught of the writer no reality just exageration of his relationship with few famous people and his trip around the world and blah blah blah……………
MR. Sapkota’s article is far more better than that nonsense book so don’t read scoh its a waste of time…..try to accept negative things and change….

No country can be judged with in such a short tour. If you have such a tour in Nepal then you will find it is a better place than any part of the world. Just compare what we have and what others don’t. So, try to be unbiased and do your research carefully. Remember the development reports are not made by tours.

Writer’s observations might be correct – but, then what? or, so what? Can you go back to the roots of the changes in Ethiopia and share with us how things changed there and how we can learn from them? Otherwise it makes no sense in pouring out frustrations – everyone knows we have frustrations on the status of our nation.
If you visit N Korea for a few days, you may also find that the N Korea is far more developed than our nation, but it will take you longer and being among the real society to see for yourself the reality of starvation and frustration there.

I thank you all for your comments, which indeed inspired me quite a lot. I really value your comments. Though some of them were really cheap, I would have been more happy if some one has mind his languages. Firstly, I would like to make one thing clear that I too love my country in the same way you do. Therefore I dare to write something, as I thought I need to be reponsible to show you the truth. I somehow feel happy that at least 100s of you have given sometime to read it and make some comments. Thats what the article is worth for. Thank you all.
I now would like to make some clarity on some of the issues raised by audiences.
First, I am not a Bhagauda, neither I will stay longer in Sweden. I am doing my research in Nepalese forests (Nawalparasi). Every year, I remain there for six months and stay here six months. I do have more experiences on Nepalese ground reality as you do so in Nepal.
Next to this, the article was intended to show a picture on how a student feels and what he often wishes people and their services of host country to be. And it was neither been made with an suit of five star hotel In Addis, nor in a air-conditioned car in black topped road. My impression came accross along with monutains, ca. 3800 m in altitude, poor people, cold nights in their huts, and a very dusty roads in country side. For sure, I was not having honeymoon period in Addis.
The political situation of this country, the somali invaders ( they think so!), the political stake towards Eritria ( they claim so!), the fake and false recent poll ( some of them claim so!), the external support, enagagements of developed world in development, and their economic growth rate, their coffee forests, their valuable mines, their huge external exports and mimimum import etc. are not the scope of this article at all. If you want me to write, I will try to do so in next episode. Lastly, I was not comparing the natural features and boundaries of countries. I was just tried to look into the elements of a state and physical developments and human behaviours. The people, the government, the services, their behaviour and ofcourse people’s daily life are the focus in here. I was not at all happy to write these things. Rather, I was having a very heavy heart. Therefore, it is far better to know hard reality than to remain in an Illusion. We dare to know what we dont know. I wish you all a very good luck to feel the motive of any articles. Dont deviate the messages. Thanks a lot again !

I totally agree with the writer. he has tried to show the actual face of today’s Nepal which is definitely very embarassing .there is nothing negatively to be taken on this article . I found many comments which were written outrageously rather than taking the positives out of it. those who are not agree with the article they don’t wan’t to accept reality. I just could not hold my emotions on your writing. I believe that you have presented it very sensibly. I don’t wish to go through the critiques of the writing, but just think that it is misinterpretated.
We can make the situation reverse, but who is going to listen us? It will take time to make the common poeple understand our thinkings just because of their awareness level. Despite the downpour of ‘dollars’ since years before, nothing has changed except the ‘elites’ have become ‘mega elites’.
Until and unless the people with good academic background and honesty in mind will not join the politics, the every oppurtunity to us will turn into a misfurtune.
What we can do is to fulfill our duty in most efficient way and wait for the better time to come. After all ‘optimism’ provide us some sort of relief..

I’m 100% with the writer. I’m too here now in Ethiopia just arrived on 27 Nov for my project works.
I too have same feeling when i was on the way that this country may be worst as in we use to see in TV n all. This is my 2nd trip to africa first was at Mozambique in 2005. But i found they have so many things which can be compare with International standards. I find smile and freindly behaviour of people even they are so poor everywhere.
Moreover the development is in booming stage, only in road sector they have 60 projects going on. Among them i’m involve in one and you may be surprize that here we have quite a few Nepali brothers also working from long time.
There is no question that this country is far a head than nepal.

This article is fabricated. The writer challenges the internationally set human development index just showing few pictures and his few positive (let us not say biased) feelings towards Ethiopia. He does not show the real picture of hunger, disease, their messy politics and ethnic trouble of Ethiopians.
Personally I know some Ethiopian friends; they are gentle, intelligent and friendly. And I do have positive thinking like the writer about them. This is not an evaluation and comparison between countries. Of course, Nepal is poor but it is far better than Ethiopia, my friend, Indra Sapkota.

Nepal is not the personal property of any one’s. 2-4 hundred thousands people may be the different path(you can select or assume the words which you want). It does not mean all are(you again can select the words)….
Some of us are …but it does not mean that One P.HD. has right to write anything as a article what is his personal. If any one(Nepali) even still visit in any part of the world, people from any country behave like very strange way which is strange and different from us. They don’t care who you are and even you don’t know the systems , they don’t listen you.
Tell me the name of any country where foreigners are treated as Nepal. We ever respect and provide food and lodge even in rural and in poor house.
Nepal is the extra in the world and no body will care as Nepali in Nepal.
Exception is possible in any context and any where. No body can reject it.
Any foreigner can get warm treat in our small cottage in free of cost.
I never would like to urge my Country to be as Ethiopia.
If writer will just say this is his personal opinion, I may agree. Personally, anybody can say anything.
Foreigners are respective always in my country. No country can be Nepal.Those who have decided not to return Nepal in this life, I don’t want to say anything them. Nepal is everything for Nepali people. Nepali would like to laugh, cry, love and
we are ready to die in terms of our Country.

hi everyone, i read all the comments and the commentry fights between each other. Lets not try to criticisie each other, this is a free blog and anyone can put his/her ideas and views but should not use bad words regarding somebody’s character or the degree, all right? Next thing is the writer of this article is pouring his frautration. he is free to do that so nobody should feel bad on it.and as far as i know the writer does not mean that Nepal is ugly country. Ethiopia used to be taken as an example of a failed state and a few years of peace and stability has already made it leapfrog many nations including ours, Nepal. We had better learn good things from others. There is no good in being always in endless political wrangling like we do in Nepal.

Nice research Mr Sapkota.I am quiet excited to see your artice.Finally analysis is done with the fact and so u tried to say millions of line through the picture.Obviously picture says millions of line.I am sure Mr Gajendra Yonjan will object me.Mr Yonjan represents the nepali group who always supress the development theory with their silly logic.
If Yonjan tried to explain his view through a good logic i will accept his view also.Dont try to mock others without your knowled.He seems little bit proudy trying to say that he have a lots of Knowledge.
Yeah it seems true but he has lost his wisdom.Because knowledge and wisdom is different.You cant earn wisdom its always inbuilt.
I can see the pict and i can say they are ahead.But it doesnot mean i dont love my country.You dont have to see i love my country only.But saying only you will be the lover than leader will be at the first line.

Every body have their own perspectives so they have right to say their view. If present situation remains 5 years in Nepal, Nepal will be the first poorest country in the world. Anybody can see any green singnal for the betterment of Nepal?? I have many idea to develop Nepal like others but I (we) can not do anything.I do not think so, We can not do anything for our country except writing some comments and giveing some money for the victims. Main persons are the leaders, see them, what they are doing there? any leaders do u know who is responsible for the country?? no. no. no. Everybody is frustrated with our leaders. We are not frustrated with our country. Some people mentioned about Karna Sakya, Yes, he is good but he can not do anything for the development. Try to be realictic, We neplese know theoritical aspect but where is ground reality? So, Sapkota express real scenario of Nepal. Truth is always bitter, that is truth of Nepal. No one can do anything for the country in this situation.

Dear Indrajee,
The article written by you is not only the fact but eye opening to many people. When we compare our country with European and developed country, we found lots of differences and say that our beloved country never can attain such a prosperity in thousands year. But when we see and experience the developing countries like ours, then we see the real difference. I know that with the development index, Ethiopia is far behind than us, but at the moment, Ethiopia has very promising economic growth. There economic development per year is above 7%.
Can we compare our economic growth of around 2.5% to 7% of Ethiopia?
I have many friends from Ethiopia studying with us here. When I compare my life style and living standard with them, it is shameful to say that they looks like developed one and I am as just came out from cave. It is not only my story, it is the story of all average nepalese.
So, we should not talk to develop our country like Singapore and Switzerland. It seems like funny joke! If we could develop our country only upto the limit of developed province of Sudan, Ethiopia and some other Sub Saharan countries, that would be great and realistic.
To say “something unachievable and do nothing” is worse than fixing realistic target.
We are far behind than Ethiopia, Sudan, Kongo, Tangania and many African countries.
I would like to congratulate Indrajee for his nice article, that will infact generate many critics, but it is eyeopening to many of us. This is realistic article.

this article must be written in a view of encouraging us sighting that even a country like ethiopia which we would always laugh about for its poorness( remember the joke a cat from ethiopia wins the race but in fact it is a tiger who became like a cat after starving) is more or less moving towards the right direction but our country which can become a great place with some work is still stuck due to the kind of politics that is going of, many have criticized the writer, specially mr gajendra but i think we need not be discouraged. i think the message has been passed although few percent of the people here will never stop criticizing good articles and doing nothing.

I think the opinion that mr.sapkota has expressed is excellent. I strongly suport you and would like to request those dumb asses to read the article again and understand what you really mean to say and what they are understanding.
Yes, Nepal is beautiful naturally but what I say is “beauty is to see and experience that is all for beauty”. People can even survive in naturally ugly country and even a blind man can survive if his country is organised and running smoothly. Another example is that if you have a choice between a miss world with hiv posative and an ugly lady but physically healthy you definately choose the ugly lady if you are normal and thnk about life.
what I mean to say is that Nepal is like a miss world with hiv posative and ethopia is a ugly lady but physically healthy. But we have one condition if we do the treatment hiv posative can be treated. So if we want good nepal we ought to look for the treatment of Nepal by medicating the people with the real meaning of patritoism, creating incentives to stop corruption like those who complin about corruption should be rewarded.
I have a limited time but thousands more things to suggest. Any way if we want good Nepal we should try to be good ourselves first. We should be good for our families for our childern and everyone should be treated equally and everyone should be give nthe rights to involve in free competition from the business sectors to bureaucracy.

I found this is a nice article with good analysis. I also agreed with Gagendra Ji’s comment, but writer never tell about our country is not beautiful, I suggest him pls try to read onces again. As per my understanding, writer trying to criticize our dirty political systems and their impact in daily livelihood through taking Ethiopians some good examples. I appreciate writer’s analytical Idea even he does not looks journalist.We should take positive things. He went for field trip to study about tropical ecology but how he nicely catch the things that they were not directly related to his field of study.Why we are not taking things positively ?. Thank you Indra Ji and I wish success of your Ph .D.in tropical ecology.

I am quite in favour of U. Just natural beauty and abundant resources are not enough for the development, but their utilization and mobilization are more important for the development. It requires good vision and effort from all sectors, political leadership. I had 2 collegues studying with me in Germany, from whom I have known so many things and compared with each other. I think we are not in position to compare our country with Ethiopia, as it has left us too behand. Let us search another country in the Globe, which is comparable to Nepal, which might have similarities in many aspects.

I have visited Ethiopia and had a chance to know about the country which in ways is similar to Nepal. But the fact is the country is under a terrant and its kind of “MURDA SANTI” as you call in Nepali. The political situation is very bad in Ethiopia. Its true that we have had a lot of unnecessary disturbances in recent times but we cannot say that Panchayat was better because the days then were peaceful. Its comparable to present day Ethiopia. It seems the writer had a chance to see the development in Ethiopia its roads and airports but didn’t have a chance to know the political situation of the country and how the people are living in fear. The so called democratic government is there because its a blind supporter of US.
So in brief, ya Ethiopia is nice but we should not compare Nepal’s present day situation of turmoil to that of Ethiopia. The killing, blockage unstability that is going on in Nepal is bad but we should refrain from comparing nepal’s present day’s situation to that of Ethiopia. Education system in Nepal is bad???? who said so. Its better or comparable to Ethiopia. I have been working with a lot of Ethiopian in my present work and have closely seen their capacity they are as good as me but not great.
There is a lot of similarity between Ethiopia and Nepal. But in same ways Nepalis are more cultured than in Ethiopia. I know you were privileged to have got a reception in Ethiopia which you didn’t expect so you found it great.

It’s a fact, a very nice report. My hats off to the writer. We need to change ourselves. There is no point to boast about our culture…..our nation is great, we are never under other’s occupation, we are brave……..and blah blah blah………Lets live in present. We cannot provide salary to our civil servant if we cannot get ‘bhikh’ from other nation. After all how long we can live like that? Go to any part of our country, most of the people are wasting their time either gossiping or playing cards. Lying is becoming our culture, cheating is becoming our living, and killing is becoming our day to day business. Where do we stand in world stage ? When do we get peace in the country ? Do we still have hopes on those politicians who claim to make the country more developed in south east Asia ?
The Political unstability is taking the country no where but woes for common people. Once an article was published but later removed after protest on BBC news site that Nepal as a failed state will finally become the part of India. The article further said that it was the intention of USA and other developed countries wanted Nepal to be controlled and make part of India.
The CA election is not on sight and this will further make the country more unstable. Now think, what is the future of Nepal ?

Dont be so paranoid about Nepal,dare to come Nepal and make use of what you have learned/earned on the foreign land.We can make our country better.Look at the great Mahabir Pun and Dr.Bhagwan Koirala.They know their responsibilites as a Nepali layman but do not know the “Kaite Kura”.They see lot of things to be done in various sector but do not demoralize or underestimate them self.They are filled with great Morale,it could be the culture they grew up in.

My vote absolutely goes towards the writer. Atleast, he tried to make people aware by writing where our country actualy is. Old politicians never thought and also can’t think in future about developed Nepal. ”Naya Nepal” for them means power at their hand. If King is kicked off, country will surely go ahead… but the problem is that it will go ahead at the speed of turtle… We need young leader who really has a concrete vision of future Nepal how its gonna be in some 10 years… But this doesnt again mean hawadari guff of prachanda — Nepal after 10 years like switzerland.
Nepal already trusted old leaders for 12 years and nepal got nothing special… so its time that Youths should be trusted and should be given oppurtunity. If they can lead the country to a prosperous way, we dont need ‘no vision leaders’ at all.

The article was targeted to the leaders to destroyed the country. It is a reality. I was also ashamed with my kids when we landed in TIA. If we can not make basic infrastructure nice how do you see more tourists. In your opinion Banda Hadtal,criminal activities are normal.Kathmandu is ugliest capital in the world. Capital of Sudan,Ithoipia,Bangaladesh, India you name it are much better then ours. You should not be telling black as white.

I agree with writer. many report issaying ithopias ecnomic condion is bad . and one of the poorest countries in the world..and lots of other things.
now question is we lost our ethics. we are going towards 16th century cause we believs in violence. As a nepali it is dificult to write bad things. but it is true, we believs in looting, forfully taking money. and each and everyday is bad day in Nepal now. cause everyday we are reading about somebody kills someone.
it is shame for us. and they donot threat only nepali but also for foreigmer.
we have only history now, we were suppose to good people, peaceful country, and brave…
but these all things like good story .i donot what we are going to teach next generation.
so writer did wonderful job.

Dear Gajendra, it would be better if you read the whole article carefully and completely.Has the writer ever said nepal is not beautiful?plz read it twice.Whatever he has written is due to the love towards his country.You said one small effort could turn the Nepal into better position. but have you or any person you know ever made that small effort to make countrys status better?Dont talk about theoretical things of karna shakya.talking about good things is not enough,you have to implement it practically as well. You just read the book of him. what did you do after that?Apart from mahabir pun there are very little people who has done something for the country.He hasnt mentioned about future nepal but about the ground reality of todays nepal.Whatever he has mentioned is 100 percent true.
In Nepal chakkajam,bandh,julus,curfew,bombing,kidnapping etc has become a routine activity.At least you cannot find that in ethiopia.People are dying of hunger there but yet they are not involved in so much criminal activities.
Writer has never meant that ethipoia is better than nepal.he is just comparing two countries with similar characteristics and expressing his fraustration he came across while he was in nepal.
and Mr H Ghimire who the hell you are to write about others degree?first try to learn respect for others.If you were a educated person you wouldnt have written such things about others degree.At least he is doing phd,wat the hell r u doing?

I believe that you are partially right and so is Mr. Sapkota. If our country had good leaders, we would not be in this position. Look back at Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia or many more back in last 30 years, and compare with our country. Why are we always behind? Why don`t you go and make a revolution? Why don`t you teach our leaders what is right and what is wrong? Can you manage the country if corruption is at the root level? Overwhelmingly believed is that veryone in the country has minds like “make money by whatever means”? National treasures are being used for personal benefits. Innocent people are used for party`s benefits. Even so-called educated personalities are bewildering in the street. Why it is happening in Nepal? Why can`t Nepalese citizens go against the wrong? If party leaders are wrong and corrupted, why don`t the followers oppose? Just because, they also get some pennies from them? There are many things we public should know and realize before blaming someone else. Some frustrated figures write their opinions and experiences, what is wrong in it? I am frustrated, my friend is frustrated, my family is frustrated, my relatives are frustrated, ..I have found everyone I met is frustrated..why?
Hope millions of Karna Shakyas will be born to make Nepal bloom like China in the 21st Century.

Sapkotaji, I understand your frustration about our country Nepal, but its too much of an extrapolation to compare us with this country which has been suffering due to dictator and corruption.
Just try to observe their life expectancy at birth and ours. Ours is 61 (Male)/61 (Female), theirs is 41 (Male)/42 (Female). A very large percentage of people from this country are HIV Positive, so I hope that you had been careful while visiting there…..apart from getting too fascinated !!!
