Even you can ask the people of our neighbour country they will accept the this fact and told us that in the past nepal is under rule of Britain. Many times i argue with them and convice them. One of the case is birth place of buddha is controversial to them.

Really sad that a Nepali kid (the writer) can make such a glaring mistake. What with the Red Revolution now and all, who knows what the future generation will be like. Perhaps completely ignorant about Nepal’s history, about the Shah expansion etc. Perhaps they will only know of the glorious people’s revolution and how it toppled the British Empire etc. Anyway, here goes a copy of the email I just sent to AFP:
I have serious concerns about the following content published on the web recently, under the heading “All eyes on palace for Nepal king’s eviction” -
“Britain, Nepal’s former colonial ruler, sent its congratulations after the assembly’s first session.”
I would like to point out that Nepal was never a part of Britain’s colonies. It has always been a sovereign country. I am surprised at the ignorance of the AFP writer. I am also utterly dismayed by the lack of foresight on the part of the editor/s: at least make sure that your ‘facts’ are indeed factual.
I demand that this sentence be modified appropriately. Also, it is perhaps fitting that AFP recognize its mistake and issue an apology to the people of Nepal, who take pride in never being a subject of the British empire.
I hope you will take appropriate actions quickly, before this sparks violent protests in the streets of Kathmandu or something.

There is a vast difference between a pseudo-colonization and a real colonization. We do not know what things were going on between rulers- Nepalese Ranas and British Queen- internally at those time. But thanks to the historians, Nepal was never under any other nation’s colony, including Britain. Nepal was, is and will be a sovereign, independent nation until and unless there are moons and the sun in the sky. That is the reason why we do not have independence day. you don’t know such a simple thing.

Being one of the most established news agency in the entire world, It is my simple logic that AFP must be aware of the fact that Nepal has never been under any other nation’s colony, including Britain. So, the sentence which states that “Britain, Nepal’s former colonial ruler…………” is totally untrue. If you have any document to prove your claim, I challenge you to bring it out. Hi guys,
I came across that news just minutes after AFP wrote about the UK government’s best wishes to Nepal on being a republic. I wrote to the news agency, asked it politely that as a Nepali this was quite a news to me, and went to bed. This is what recieved from them when I woke up.

Thank you for your comment and strictly speaking you are right, Nepal was never formally a British colony. The story should have been corrected.
However, the Treaty of Segowli in 1815, after the Anglo-Nepali war, tacitly recognise British dominance over a defeated Nepal. Ashok Mehta in his book “The Royal Nepal Army” writes:”For strategic and logistic reasons the British did not conquer Nepal. Though it conferred on Nepal all the trappings of an independent country, it treated the kingdom like any princely state in India.”We will not repeat the reference to colonization.

The editor should have checked this fact. If the editor agrees that British were colonial ruler of Nepal, I would like to demand a chronological details of when and how Nepal became British colony and how long the British ruled Nepal. I don’t know what you are trying to prove. It is about wrong fact published about our country not about political parties and Nepal’s geo, commercial dependency of India and India taking advantage of those situation. Of course, some political leaders are depend upon Indian political power in other word Indian support to stay in Nepali government but the news is about us, the people of Nepal. Be proud of our history.
By the way, I liked your comments in past blogs when you mentioned wrong doing of maoist party thinking you have guts to talk against wrong doing but in this comments you seems to be bias not only to communist (that is fine, its your choice for not liking them and you may have reason for that), but also to our national pride.
