अमेरिकाको पेन्सिलभानियास्थित टर्नपाइकमा आफ्नो कारले एक अमेरिकी नागरिकलाई किचेर भागेका नेपाली डाक्टर शिवलाल आचार्य अन्ततः त्यहाँको प्रहरीको फन्दामा परेका छन्।
बीएमडब्ल्यु कार चलाएर पेन्सिलभानियातर्फ जाँदै गर्दा उनको कारले एक मोटरसाइकल चालकलाई ठक्कर दिएको थियो। बिचरा ती मोटरसाइकल चालक ४६ वर्षका कीथ ब्राउन ठहरै भएछन्। दुर्घटना अनपेक्षित नै हुन्छ। गर्ने नै भनेर दुर्घटना शायदै कसैले गर्ला। तर सेप्टेम्बर ४ तारिख बिहीबार बिहान त्यस्तै ४ बजेतिर त्यो दुर्घटना भएपछि डा. आचार्यले अर्को गल्ती गरे- भागेर। एउटा गल्ती त उनले निर्धारित मापदण्डभन्दा तीब्र गतिमा मोटर चलाएर गरेकै थिए। नेपालमा भए यसोउसो गरेर केही गरी बच्न सकिन्थ्यो होला। तर अमेरिकाको प्रहरी चुप बसेन। हेलिकप्टरसमेत प्रयोग गरी उनलाई पेन्सिलभानियाको प्रहरीले खोज्यो र अन्ततः नजिकैको जंगलमा लुकेर बसेको अवस्थामा फेला पार्यो।
आचार्यलाई प्रहरीले फेला पार्दा उनको गोडामा जुत्ता थिएन। जीउमा हाफपेन्ट र सर्ट मात्र थियो। बायाँ निधार चोटपटक लागेको थियो। उनी जंगलको एउटा रुखमुनि लुकिरहेका थिए।
अमेरिकाको सिकागोमा तीन वर्षे रेसिडेन्सी सकेर नयाँ जागिरको खोजीमा पेन्सिलभेनिया जाँदै गरेका थिए ३३ वर्षीय डा. शिवलाल आचार्य। बीएमडब्ल्यु गाडी चलाएर पेन्सिलभेनिया जाँदै गरेका डा.आचार्यलाई बाटोमा पर्ने ओहायो राज्यमा समेत स्थानीय प्रहरीले अत्यधिक गतिमा मोटर चलाएकोमा रोक्न खोजेका थिए। तर उनी त्यहाँबाट पनि उम्किएका थिए। अन्ततः उनको तीव्र गतिले एक जनाको ज्यान लिएरै छाड्यो। सँगसँगै उनले आफ्ना लागि विरानो देशमा आपत पनि निम्त्याए।
आचार्यको घर नेपालमा चितवनमा भएको थाहा भएको छ। आफ्नो चिकित्साशास्त्रको अध्ययन उनले महाराजगन्जस्थित शिक्षण अस्पतालबाट गरेको थाहा भएको छ। उनकी श्रीमती अमेरिकाबाट भर्खरै नेपाल फर्किएकी रहेछन्।

It”s a very sad news. I really feel sorry for him and his family.
But I have heard about so many Nepali doctors in USA, who are very proudy and jealous, especially, those who come from not very good background in Nepal.
They are so tough to deal with, always fighting in their own community, they even comit domestic violence always fighting with their wives and torturing them. They are never happy and donot have the peace of mind. I hope he was not passing from the same phase. Its all due to their ego and pride.

Hi, its a very sad news. I really feel for his family and the baby.
But I have seen so many Nepali doctors in USA, who just fight with each others, they are so jealous and unfriendly. I have seen some guys, who quarrel with their own wives and the family, and are so proud of themselves. I hope he is also not the same.

he is a fren of mine from the med school…feel so sorry for him now…police should have backed off, yeah…and he, too..i m sure he was drunk…but above all, him fleeing the scene is unexcuseable…anyway, frens, it was sheer bad luck and can happen to any of us…in a way, the one who died was luckier!

It’s very sad news to everyone,but it’s also naked truth that he did big mistake by leaving accident scene.
my sympathic goes to his family,and his close relatives and friends.
There is very tiny chance that he can prove himself innosense after all doing unforgetable and unbelievable mistake, according to news and case he might face life in prison( may be not),but American law count this accident as a big crime if you hit people by your vehicle and after that you leave the scene instead of you call 911 ,i think it is blunder mistake what he did.
It seems like very very poor judgement.

Some of you are trying to be defensive saying that it is after all an accident. And some of you have said that he lost his judgement, but my dear friends if you are in US for 4 yrs, you are a doctor and if you run away from COPS at 130mph I would imagine how his judgement would be while treating patients. Most of us who are pointing the finger at the so called Dr are not doing so saying whatever happened happened for good…(Some exceptions: have said Khuching thikka paryo…thats not right) but we are saying he did a mistake and he is not above law. Its HIM and only HIM to blame for this tragedy to himself as well as his wife,friends and family. Also, his stupidity took away life of the motorcyclist.

He was driving around 76mph (miles per hour) in 65mph zone. When police tried to stop him. Any normal person would stop when police ask to stop. Why did he lose his mind at this point? But he rather than stopping accelerated and ran away with at 130mph in 65mph zone. It is where his car hit a motorcyclist.

It is very very sad new about the accident, You nepali guys be carefull when u are driving in Highway espacially,in this case according to online news source he had speed 76mph which is 11mph more then allowed which is not so bad speed in highway almost all driver are driving in 70mph police will not fine untill u passed more then 10%. The big mistake he shouldnot ran away after accident he should stay there. If he had american driving licence and he was there in spot will get less charge which is better for him in this condition now he had three charge according to news source, overspeeding and killing man and run way. I drove whole america two years ago from east coast west coast , that time i got one traffic ticket that was due to overspeeding for five minute in high way,
Anyway what happen was seriousely bad we all shold be carefull in driving anywhere in the world.

Doctor has made a blunder mistake one after another. He must have known traffic rules of US when he has the driving license and owns a BMW. It’s clearly shows that either doc was a careless person or overconfident/proudy. Now he has to pay for it.
Though our sympathy is with him and his family and God may help him to get out of it BUT this is almost impossible.

I know Dr shiva lal acharya personally. he was a student in MBBS tuition center (NAME,putalisadak) around 2055 BS. he was senior to me. got admission in IOM maharajgunj. i cant believe that he did all these coz he was one of the most polite guy in IOM.

what everyone who drives in western country should not forget is that speed kills even though you feel you are in control of the vehicle it is just simple physics that sets the speed limit to certain miles/hr for certain road and its there for good reason. Once you exceed that limit you r always at risk.
He did not use is common sense to stop which is understandable in such a situation as he must have been scared but because heis doctor by profession the judge is going to be harsh on him for that and its likely he will end up with sever sentence god help him and if there are any good lawyers in us who can help him that would be great.

३) अर्को संभावना यो पनि हुन सक्छ की ब्रो ले कुनै पार्टी-सार्टीमा गएर अली-अली “दारु” लगाएर गाड़ी चलाको पनि हुन सक्छ ! DWI (Driving While Intoxacated) बाट बच्न भागेको पनि हुन सक्छ ! DWI हुनु भनेको त शुरुमा doctor को जागीर पाउने संभावना अति नै कठिन हुनु हो !

Its very unfortunate. This is an accident alright but who to blame for it? The COPS or the driver. I read that he was driving at 75 mph in a 65 mph road and when a police tried to stop him in OHIO he accelerated at times even reaching the speed of 120 mph. If he had stopped as soon as the COPS blinked their lights he would have got a minimum fine after all he was just 10mph above. When he doesnot stop the COPS think there is something wrong nad he might have has contrabands/weapons/drugs…He must have known this when Police stops you U stop. You don’t run away. Its hard to believe he didn’t know that he has to pullover when the COPS warn you. Failing to stop and travelling at that speed resulting to vehicular homicide…guys think about that motorcyclist… The driver is a Doctor and he doesnot have common sense that when the COPS warn you – U stop. ke bhanne khoi.

Anybody who comes to the US passing MBBS, passing three or four layers of tough tests for residency cannot be a reckless or a stupid person.
Over speeding in US highways is obvious, many people do so, get caught, pay fine, that’s all. Life is tough, so people try to spare some time by driving a bit faster until they see a MAMA around.
It’s very unfortunate that the fatal accident happened!! Accidents do happen, but he made a HUGE mistake by running away. That’s why he will be in more trouble: Running away from the law enforcement!
I am so sad that a hard working Nepali earned such a bad reputation. Only thing we can wish for him is a minimum jail time!

Reading through most of the comments, it reflects how arrogant, ignorant, and uncivilized we Nepalese people are.
The doctor’s actions are not justifiable at all, specially when he left the scene of accident, hoping he would be able to escape it. But, since he left the car behind, he would be caught anyway sooner or later. He must have been scared to death and must have lost his commonsense to remain on the scene.
Factors like his hurry to get to the interview, fatigue, carelessness, the motorcycle rider’s mistake, or just a plain bizarre incident might be the reason behind the accident. However, this is a very sad happening-for the doctor and for the motorcycle rider and his family.
But, we cherish this mishap, assume things for ourselves and blame the doc for being too much over the top because of money and qualification. Even the news writer tries to portray him in a bad way.
No wonder our dearest politicians and leaders repeatedly screw us over, we’re the creepiest insects in the view of first world country and their citizens, and no matter how many credentials we hold, we still can’t break free from our own mental slavery.

Now they are charging him for vehicular homicide, hit and run, few traffic voiletions and leaving the scene of an accident. I think there is a life in prison sentence without parole. Crime is a crime who soever commits it. The doctor at first instance committed breach of law followed by fleeing away from the site of an accident which is a stupid crime. I am upset with his behavior and sympathize with his bad lock.

I really feel bad for him. I think its all due to the wrong decision. Its so sad for him, and his wife and his baby.
But, I have seen so many nepali doctors in USA, who didnot have a good background in Nepal, are so proud and very aggressive with their family at their own home. I have heard about couple of Nepali doctors, who fight with their wives all the time and even commit domestic violence as well. Poor wives, thinking about the prestige of their family, just remain silent. They are so proud, nasty and nobody likes them, and they themselves are not at mental peace as well. I hope he was not that type.

Almost all Nepali are like that in USA. In addition, those who are doctor, forget them. It is obvious from his style also. I am sorry to say , but he got what he did.
A few years ago, when we were in chicago, we heard our far relative is coming for residency in Chicago. We even thought we will ask him to stay with us. But you know what, when he came, he even did not come to see us although, he has brouhgt some stuff for us. I have met another to be doctor in PA last year. He was so proud, that he has started driving one litter red level everyday. Used to drive while in driving.
Anyway, it is bad to hear this sad news, but many Nepali are not on ground. They are flying on the sky.

Actual case was:
He was being chased when he hit the motorcyclist. He didn’t stop in that chase and had fatal crash.
That chase caused him to speed up.
The term may be severe than we expect right now. Coz charges is being count as second degree vehicle homicide, hit and run.
If luck- few years in jail will save his life else god knows.
Also the report says he is Indian but he is from Nepal.

You are right in general. He could not have known the american law. If so, he could have driven slow. If he did not know how to drive well, he could have taken plan and tax9cab). He should have known in the three years he was resident doctor, that America is not Nepall, phalana ko chhoro, or doctor, or some money, or riding BMW works.
I respect his family, and I respect humanity. But why did not he slow down whhen he was caught? What he would get is a ticket. Again, if he did not know the law, or driving, he should not drive.
I have met some to be doctors, in USA . You can not imagine, their proudness. They think themselves – animal from another planet. As they can get a job starting 25k to 50 depending their specilization, they could have been making max 25,000 nrs in Nepal, they get mad. So, sahanu bhuti rakhada rakhdai, I would say this is the result of what he did.
Wish, he get out of it and learn a lession. But I am not sure whether he can get out soon or easily.

3 mistakes have been done here
1) SPEEDING
first at 78miles/hr & then 130miles/hr(on pursuit)
2) Hitting an innocent motocyclist (accident)
3) Running away from crime scene (what happend to his
ethics and/or the oath he took for saving lives)
If someone does the mistake, he/she should be punished… irrespective of his caste/gender/nationality

Driving 130m/hr is not innocent person. He knew speed limit set by law. Why he drove that fast?
Every one who lives for a few years, knows that traffic rule is very strict is USa. It is not only affect driving, or some fine, also affect in some cases, job afterward. While knowing this, being a doctor himself, who might have dealth with accident victim while in hospital, it was his blink mistake to drive that way.
I can guess, he has proudness of being a doctor and getting a good job. I have seen many doctors like him. Once they come to usa, they start thinking they are an animal from another planet not like us.
When a person, who is looking for job, rides a BMW, I can guess how proudd he was. it is sad but it was him who made this not anyone.

मित्र ,१३० माएल प्रति घण्टा( २०९ कि मि प्रति घण्टा ) को द्रुत गतिमा मोटर चलाऊने अनी डाक्टर जस्तो मान्छे अरुको जीवन सखाप पारी भाग्ने काम अन्जान मा कसैले गर्दैनन । पेन्स्ल्भेनियामा हाइवे मा ६५ माएल प्रति घण्टा भन्दा (१०४ किमी प्रति घण्टा )अधिक गतीमा मोटर चलाऊन पाएदैन ।

Dear Janak,
By saying what I said above, I am not implying that he will be unable to physically appear on employers’ premises (offices) in order to hunt a job or present himself for interview.
Mine was just the hypothesis based on the conversation I heard from some of the friends who have also completed medical residency in the US.
My point is: even a petty law violation (misdemeanor) in the US can become incommodious to esily secure a medical profesional job such as physician, nurse etc.
As to your lampoon if I drive by thinking in that fashion, I just like to remind you the fact that a circumtances triggers the stuffs in your unconcious mind ( according to the Sigmund Freud, father of modern Psycology ). For example, if somebody had love tragedy in the past, by seeing the a love making couple in a public park, the one would definitely miss his ex girl-friend.
Then, I assume that: that doctor have seen many instances of how law violating people got trouble with the law while he was working in hospital emergency which is a part of the medical residency.
This is how I associated his would-be career(job) with his un-prudent judgement at that incident.

When you are a doctor you are expected to be more professional, good in judgement etc. Otherwise why is studying medicine so difficult in US, because the society has a upmost respect for doctors. We excpect highly qualified people like him bidding the law and being a good example so that it is an example for the others…but…tara

It”s a very sad news. I really feel sorry for him and his family.
But I have heard about so many Nepali doctors in USA, who are very proudy and jealous, especially, those who come from not very good background in Nepal.
They are so tough to deal with, always fighting in their own community, they even comit domestic violence always fighting with their wives and torturing them. They are never happy and donot have the peace of mind. I hope he was not passing from the same phase. Its all due to their ego and pride.
