बीबीसी विश्व चुनौति प्रतियोगितामा यस पटक पनि एउटा नेपाली परियोजना अन्तिम चरणमा पुगेको छ। बीबीसीले यस्तो प्रतियोगिता तीन वर्षअघि सुरु गरेको थियो। गत वर्ष पनि बिना ग्याँस खाना पकाउने नेपाली प्रविधि यो प्रतियोगिताको अन्तिम चरणमा पुगेको थियो र विश्वभरबाट भएको मतदानका आधारमा उपविजेता समेत छनौट भएको थियो। समाजमा साँच्चिकै परिवर्तन ल्याउने परियोजना र व्यापारलाई खोज्ने र पुरस्कृत गर्ने काम यो प्रतियोगिताले गर्छ। यस पटक मुख्यगरी कुष्ठरोगीहरुको सेवामा लागिपरेको शान्ति सेवा गृह प्रतियोगितामा मनोनीत भएको छ। यो परियोजनालाई पुरस्कृत गराउन तपाईँको सहयोग महत्त्वपूर्ण हुनसक्छ। यो साइटमा जानुस् यहाँ क्लिक गरेर र आफ्नो मत दिनुस्। प्राप्त मतका आधारमा विजयी घोषणा गरिनेछ।

The winner will receive a grant of USD $20 000 to put back into their project/business, and two runners up will each receive USD $10 000. Shanti Sewa Griha – Nepal
Shanti Sewa Griha is a self-sufficient society for leprosy victims and other social outcasts.
Nepal is one of the few countries in the world where people still get leprosy. Effective treatments exist. But fear of the disease runs so deep that victims are often shunned even after they’ve been cured. Most end up as beggars around the country’s temples – though even here they are often ostracised by other beggars.
Shanti Sewa Griha – meaning “Peace, Help and Home” in Nepali – was set up to help the beggars around one of the biggest temples in the capital Kathmandu. “We started with 13 leprosy affected people back in 1992,” remembers Krishna Gurung, one of Shanti’s founders. “Now we have altogether over a thousand people.”
As well as medical care, Shanti also offers employment through tailoring, handicrafts and organic gardening. Even the most severely disabled are given some useful role. “It’s about finding the talents that are hidden in them,” says Krishna. “We have a badly maimed person but he can hold one device – he is making all the staircases, and he’s doing a beautiful job.” Shanti Sewa Griha has recently opened a new site outside the city. Building on the self-sufficient, village-like ethos of the original centre, the new site incorporates workshops, a school and a free health clinic.

I would also ilke to vote for shanti griha, however as one of our friends mentioned above we need to get better idea about the working/activities of shanti griha. If its an organization thats truely working for the cause it says unlike many INGO’s/NGO’s with fake causes, then we should and must for Shanti Griha.
Yes, we must think globally however we must never forget where we belong. I do not think we have done our duty if we work for UN/ WHO and work on projects in many nations but have not done a dollar worth of contribution to Nepal. This vote of ours can be our contribution too. I will vote for Shanti Griha and will urge all to vote for it IF it truely works for the cause it states.
I will urge every one who knows this organisation’s activities to post here so that we all what its doing.

Ya, I did vote too –of course for Shanti Sewa Griha. I chose them not only because they have something to do with Nepal; but also because they are determined in providing job opportunities to helpless sufferers of leprosy who otherwise have no chance of getting employed. As we all know how Nepalese society sees the leprosy victims as a repay of the misdeed one had done in his/her past life. I hope my one vote gonna count, and Shanti Sewa Griha gonna be the winner. I would be very happy if Shanti gets the prize (fund) and utilizes it to make lives of leprosy victims any better.

Our vote should not be based on where the organization is based, rather it should be based on the contribution an organization is making to a society.
