जनआन्दोलनपछि बनेको लोकतान्त्रिक सरकारले नेपाली जनतालाई पहिलो महंगी उपहार दिएको छ। अस्ति मात्रै हो मैले आपूर्ति मन्त्री ह्रदयेश त्रिपाठीको अन्तर्वार्ता सुनेको एफएममा। भन्दै थिए- ढुक्क हुनुस्, भाउ बढ्दैन। तर आज एक्कासी ढाड भाँच्चिने गरी मूल्य बढाइयो। विश्वव्यापी तेलको मूल्यमा वृध्दि भइरहेको, आयल निगमले घाटा खाइरहेको आदि कुरासित नेपाली जनतालाई कुनै मतलब छैन। उनीहरुलाई त अब हुने महंगीसित मात्र मतलब छ। त्यसो त यी दलहरुले पनि आफू सत्तामा नहुँदा कहाँ यी कुरा बुझेका थिए र ? चन्द सरकारको पालामा बढाइएको मूल्यको विरोधमा गरिएको विरोध प्रदर्शनका क्रममा २०५९ साल चैत २५ गते बुटबल बहुमुखी क्याम्पसमा देवीलाल पौडेल मारिएका थिए, जसलाई सात दल सत्तामा पुगेपछि लोकतान्त्रिक आन्दोलनका पहिला शहीदको रुपमा घोषणा गरिएको थियो।
अनि प्रतिगमन आधा सच्चियो भन्दै सरकारमा जाने एमालेका मन्त्रीले मूल्य बढाउँदाको फेमस डायलग ‘कि झुण्डिने कि मूल्य बढाउने मात्र विकल्प थियो’ भन्ने कसले बिर्सेको छ र ?
मूल्यवृध्दिको इस्यु त सत्ताबाहिर बस्नेहरुका लागि एउटा राम्रो मुद्दा मात्र बनेको थियो सडक तताउन। जनताको पीरमर्कासित उनीहरुलाई बाल मतलब थिएन। तीतो सत्य यही हो।
अझ गम्भीर कुरा के हो भने विगत केही दिनमा भएका पेट्रोलियम पदार्थ लुकाएर किन नाटक गरियो ? के अब भोलिपर्सि पनि मूल्य बढाउनु अघि सामान लुकाएर नाफा खाउ है भनेर शिक्षा दिन खोजिएको हो ? अनि यदि भाउ बढाउनु नै छ भने किन बढ्दैन भनेर नाटक गर्नु परेको ? नेताहरु जे भन्छन् त्यो गर्दैनन्, जे गर्छन्, त्यो भन्दैनन् भन्ने उखान मिलाएको हो ?
मूल्य पनि आम्मामा कति धेरै बढाएको हो- सबैभन्दा बढी खाना पकाउने ग्यासको मूल्य बढेको छ। भन्नलाई खाना पकाउने ग्यास भनिए पनि यसको प्रयोग गाडी चलाउन पनि भइरहेको छ। गाडी चलाउन प्रयोग नभइदिएको भए यसको खपत केही भए पनि कम हुन्थ्यो र एक जमानामा २०० रुपैयाँमा पाइने एक सिलिण्डर ग्यासलाई अहिले एकै चोटी १०० रुपैयाँ बढाएर १ हजार पुर्याउनु पर्ने थिएन। पेट्रोलमा 13 रुपैयाँ बढाइएको छ भने मट्टितेलमा १० रुपैयाँ र डिजेलमा ४ रुपैयाँ बढाइएको छ। शहरमा खाना बनाउन प्रयोग हुने ग्यासमा भने एक सय रुपैयाँ एकै चोटी बढाइएको छ। अब यी मूल्यवृध्दिका असर चारैतिर पर्नेछ।
लोडसेडिङ, मूल्यवृध्दि… अब के ? पर्खँदै छौं….
Again agreeing GM, why should government susidise petroleum, for a rich guy to drive car in cheap fuel? To let the less than 15% city dwellers gives cheaper gas? To give 5 star hotels cheaper kerosene? So the question is why the 15% people of the country should get improportionate benefit?
That means a family from Kathmandu who has car, use gas etc would get monthly more than 1000 Rs. subsidy, but what does a poor family in Humla get? 1 liter of kerosene with 5 Rs. subsidy? Who is getting more benefit..? The rich family or a poor? Is it propotionate? Things seems quite complicaed!

I am surprised about your interpretation or understanding. To make you clear I am not a rich guy and of course from a quite medium level background even without having a house in Kathmandu! I was talking about the reality and agreeness by Mr. Samrat and Mr. Dinnesh have just showed their feelings and level of understanding and acquitance with the reality. Understanding the reality and showing concerns about the reality doesnt mean that anyone is quite rich or blind hard supporter of any party. And please try to understand that no rich in the world wants to throw the hard earned money for any unreasonable or useless thing, so none of the rich people will support any unjustifiable price hike in anything.
Please understand that the oil politics is far far beyond the reach and understanding of poor management level and leaders of Nepal.
I have few questions:
1. Why one who doesnt have income should use motorbike?? Just to cause traffic jam??
2. Why those who dont have income should live in Kathmandu, better should divert to the places where they can earn or to back to their home. Or if anyone says, no living standard in Kathmandu is high so I am living in Kathmandu, then I would like to say without money is your liveing standard high? Do you know what does living standard mean?
3. The place where I am living cost Petrol about Rs. 125 per liter and diesel about Rs. 110 per liter. Its because of high tax, because government wants to control their people and want to make them less dependent on foreign fuel and encourage for public transportation. In our country one of the major tax resource is petroleum product. If Nepali pay tax in other form then may be government can lower tax in that system. But do yo pay tax? Have I paid tax? Then who pays tax? How the government runs!! So its like, the government sees the easy way is that whether its correct or not….otherwise it will be bankrupted…of course there is the game of corruption, leakage, mixing…which all know.
Just think is it reasonbale for a poor country like ours to throw half of the national budget to other country for oil….? Is this correct nationalism and good economic practice??
I can or dont want to afford for fuel, so I use public vehicle. Why dont our leader make publci transportation reliable so that less traffic jam, fast transportation….cheap for all!
Everyone knows that oil reservoirs will be empty after few decades…then what will we do? Of course we have to generate electricity. Produce more and more and cheap electricity, so that you can afford it…use petroleum only there, where it is must..
Now I pay about 80 USD per month for electricity, I know its quite expensive, but I must use it. When I was in Nepal my monthly electricity bill would be less than 3 USD. I just think that if we in Nepal could use electricity, instead of petroleum, how much money we have saved for our country till now??
Within another 3 years there could be at least 20-30% increase again in petroleum. So how we shall prepare to tackle with that?? In your opinion Boudha ko friend may be we have to collect more and more tyres, so that we can burn more!! I just want to say we have to prepare for such things about years before.
I am involved in one of the energy generating project in West, the target of which is to generate alternative fuel but may be within 100 years! For Nepal we dont need to wait 100 years, if we give good environment, political environment, a civilized manner then we can just manage and make rules, foreigners will invest and give us revneu if we can not make ourselves.
In my previous comment I mentioned about Bhutan. I feel ashamed to face a Bhutanese officer in a local seminar. Though we think Bhutanese are quite poor, but think, they have nearly three times more per capita than us! They get 4 times more salary than our same rank government counterpart! They have less roads, they depend less in petroleum, they save internal money. But instead we can not absorb our own money and let it to flow outside…!
So I just wanted to see electric stove heating in Nepalese kitchen instead of gas which is hazardous for health and economy both…!
And we think when Prachanda comes he will make everything alright! When democracy comes everything will be alright! And when sambidhan sabha comes all things goes right! Our mentality, our education, our society, our management, our civilization,, our manner and attitude all are responsible for hindrance in development of Nepal…not any other…not any one else..
Umesh Jee, This issue is much complicated in political terms. But in economic term, it is simple. We can not allow NOC to go in loss. Cheap Kerosene was used to be mixed in petrol and I am sure in the past, political parties were under influence of these businessmen who got profit by this ‘adulteration’. The parties opposed the price hike for kerosene mainly citing the reason for being used by poor household. But in reality, only 25 percent of the kerosene was being used in household use (according to Kantipur daily’s news report). Now they are facing the problem. Had it been this economical issue in the past than political, this situation would not have come. Now the adulteration mafia has started mixing ‘naphtha’ which is quite cheaper than kerosene and worst for engines. This is quite terrible. I am very disappointed that the issue of oil price has always been a political ‘arm’ and now it is being used against the political parties as well. Let us see how far this will go.
Another point, there is also issue of leakage and corruption within NOC itself. This issue has been raised many times but not with that emphasis as it deserves. Government tax imposed on petroleum products is also another important issue. It is quite interesting to learn that government fix the price of petroleum products less than the buying price is India and ask NOC to sell in loss. Government adds tax on these petroleum products but do not compensate the loss directly. It is quite confusing economics.
At last, as a motorbike rider, I am very unhappy with this current price tariff. In international market, price of petrol, diesel and kerosene is almost same (rather petrol is cheaper than diesel and kerosene). I would like to ask the authorities, why the price of petrol is high in our case? This is not justified that we (motorbike riders) need to pay high price to compensate the loss for kerosene, diesel and gas (which is mostly used for commercial purposes – kerosene in hotels for boiler/in mixing with petrol, diesel in big buses/trucks and also for rich people’s SUVs and gas in transport use). This is just unfair, why I need to pay high price of petrol while it is cheaper in the international market? Is it because we common people do not have our associations? We have our political parties, but are they ready to take decision for ourselves? No. the answer is NO. Therefore, I am disappointed, very much.

Why should we give up building schools and sending children to school to subsidize petroleum so that you can ride your bike?
Oil prices have gone up by 3 times in 5 years every where in the world. Someone has to bear the costs – either the Govt or consumers. If Govt keeps on paying it then who suffers – poorer people who cannot even afford to buy motorbikes or gas cookers since the Govt cannot spend money for poor people’s development.
Nepal does not have oil reserves. There is no way Govt can control petrol costs. If you want to consume petrol products, there is no other way around than to suck it up. People everywhere in the world are suffering and Nepal is no different. This is reality we are living in.

panda, that’s right, symmetrical changes would occur when there is change in price of petrol in USA. But, this govt must think that poor nepalese can’t go that way. Since so many years, they’ve been giving us petroleum products on lesser price to other countries comparison. Government should realise that they could generate national income by charging tax on other sectors(which don’t directly affect peoples daily living) and trying to cover up the loss beared by NOC. They’ve been doing this since so many yyears. that’s why, theoritically, NOC is incurring crores of loss per month, thats right. Literally, it’s untrue, cos, govt is already compensating that loss which they think we are not aware of..
so, i suggest Mr. Panda and Samrat, that it’s totally unfavorable for poor nepalese.
Just because few people like you are rich, doesn’t mean we poor other nepalese brother have to suffer. Now, we must overthrow this government and bring some other new power in country.

in petrol, there is rise by nearly 17 Rs, not 13 Rs. i’ve my motorbike and since, i’m concern with that, it’s now very hard to think about riding my bike so often.
when i started getting petrol for my bike, it’s around 38 Rs.. now, it’s more than double the previous price within the course of 6-7 years.
i don’t believe a penny that those NOC were bearing loss of crores per month. i agree that petroleum price is much lower in here than other countries. But, they(govt) were covering it up from other sector too. Now, this is a open loot. pure commission motive. beneficial to hidden parties..
now, GIRIJA and gang must be overthrown without no delay. PRACHANDA must come in power to solve all this problem..

I really appreciate the comments made by Mr. Panda which is very much reasonable. The government has no option but to increase the oil price in line with the international market price. Mr. Umesh “the great” blugger seems to be bias in dissimination of information. Nepal government need to concentrate in the production of alternative energy as soon as possible, otherwise Nepal has to face another pricehike in the near future. Thanks.

Why is NOC always on loss? Who are there behind it? Why do we have NOC monpoly on oil. Why donot we privatise such company? See same thing is happening in Nepal’s Airlines (formwerly called RNAC).
In another different context UML leader “Pyasi” comrade is sending his handsons/sis to Japan. He is urguing that some other people from nomal family can NOT pay charge for formalities. Be careful “pyasi” ji. How long do you look your country? See time is changing so fast. One day people will know you….

The price of oild depends on couple of factors sometime it is not within the control of government while sometime it happens due to government’s aim to raise back door money for political purposes.
Reasons for oil price:
1. International price
2. Exchange rate
3. Domestic interest rate
4. International interest rate
In general, risks on all above are hedged by forward trade by most countries, while our NOC is so corrupt that they have an excuse all these to raise price.
There is no parameter to raise the particular percent in the price. Because it is never transparent.
First, it should be privatized or lift regulated system.
But the government is not accountable, transparent, and corrupt more over. The world witnessed price rise in oil for the last one and half months, and it is in stability situation while nepal on the contrary, is raising the oil price after price dcline in other countries. It is funny!!!! That’s the point we are always against the government policy on oil.
First kick out this idiot government as early as possible.
