3. Dear GM!
   Remember how is structure of our economy, polity, social condition, geography and poor population. Maximum number of consumer’s population come from poor class people. May be it is more than 80% of total population. I believe every individual citizen must be taken care by state fairly but in the name of external factor the state should not ignor poors. Kerosene and Diesel have completely completely closerelation with these people. Remember , transportation , consumer goods, books, stationary, etc will have direct impact of hiked fuel prices. No trader, industrialists or transporters will show mercy, they immidiately impose high price on people. What environ was in the market? Petrol Pumps since previous day had started saying” CHHAINA, CHHANA. Increase the price but give relief and justice to poors. if u argue over looking the structure of population nothing no answer can satisfy u. But my dear brother do not forget ever nation poor or rich have welfare role to play for own JANATA. Political elites, rich men, Mafias, Taskars, higher ranking persons in service of Govt or public or Pvt only are not the heart of nepal. Poors heart also must pulpitate smoothly. Do not forget this point. Present price hike is never never and never agreeable.If it is a necessity then come up with compensation to lower income or no income group of population. That is much i can say . Thanks for ever respectable readers. Wearer knows where the shoe pinches. peple from US / UK who have social guarantee do not know our difficulties and pains.

6. It is true that Petrolium Price has gone high in international market. In USA also, it has been increased about 25% in last three years. So we have to understand the economy and don’t be blind.

7. Sorry for our ignorent brother and sister, who eager to burn tire and destroy own country. Most of these people go and burn tire, does not even buy petrol, they are just chela’s of bhate’s neta’s.

   They need to learn to protect our home first. Nepal is our home. Hey Bhagwan why dont to give some buddhi to these stupid bhakta’s.

8. The overeaction to hike on petroleum prices shows that we are narrowminded, shorttempered without any commonsense and vision. This short of behaviour has its origin in our feudal medieval society. Why the leaders can not explain to their followers real scenario. In my pinion, subsidies in petroleum products is a social injustice. Just analyze the following situation.
   1. The subsidy in petrol reaches to people who are sufficiently rich to afford vehicles. How many of Nepali are getting benefit from this – maximum 5% (May be sociologist have exact data)
   2. The subsidy in Diesel may reach to higher prportion of Nepali because of its wider use in public transportations. However, the financial burden per family because of the rise in prices due to the hike in petroleum products should be negligible. Similarly, the rise in kerosene price also should have negligible effect because the amount of kerosene used per family is very small.

   However, the total financial burden caused by this hike due to multifactorial effect will be significant to poor family. In the otherhand, the saved money previously expended for subsidies can be used for the developement in education, health and infrastructure building. Definitely, in the longterm, Nepal will get benefit from this hike.

   Now, the government seems unable to stand on its decision and political parties are looking on shortterm benefit and have opposed the decision. This is the most unfortunate. There should not be any monopoly in petroleum products. I am against any subsidies because subsidy goes for personal benefits and corruption. Just few years back, we have heard that the enployee in NOC were given bonus despite it was in loss. How it is possible? The subsidy in anything is social unequility and injustice. If the money is ivested in infrastructure developement, education and health that will be more equal distribution of resources. My suggestion: while opposing any action, first analyze the situation unbiased and as a whole then only decide whether this is rational or not.

10. i feel stupid to call myself nepali. petrolium price has been way up for last couple of months in usa on average it is 3 dollar so i dont understand why people are burning tire. i think this is all maoist or palace karamat. i think we should bring a system like in united states where price of petrolium increases as price in international market increases. MAY BE WE SHOULD TRY TO TEACH ILLITERATE NEPALI THE THEORY OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND.

11. Increasing petroleum price is a necessary but unpopular decision. Thanks to UML who first started such protests when they were in opposition to get political benefit. Now it is a trend and it is very difficult to stop such protests after price increases.

    If I were in the Govt, here is how I would do the price rise.

    1) Make NOL efficient, punish corrupt people in NOL, and reduce costs wherever possible. Punish the dealers selling adulterated petrol. I will highly publicize this so that public will know that Govt is doing whatever possible to reduce the costs.

    2) Make all the state owned TV, Radio, newspapers to publish international oil price on a daily basis. Thus people will know that oil price is rising and make them mentally prepared for higher prices.

    3) Allow private companies to bring petroleum products and end the monoply of NOL. This will hopefully bring more efficiencies and lower the costs of distribution. If not, private companies will go out of business.

    4) Invite journalists and student leaders and educate them on economics of oil prices and how subsidies work. Teach them how subsidies on petrol is hurting even poorer people who cannot even afford kerosene heater or motorbikes. Make the cost, subsidy, tax on petroleum products tansparent and have a public debate on pricing with student leaders etc on TV or in town hall meetings.

    5) Write opinion pages about oil prices in major newspapers, give interviews, and so on to make public prepared for the price hike.

    What a simple logic you have. Tax on rich and do not increase price on petrol that hurts poor. My friend, how many of 25 million Nepalese are rich? May be 100,000. So how han we sustain Rs 16 billion loss by taxing these 100,000 people. It is not feasible and sustainable.

    My friend, the days of cheap oil is gone. The whole world is sucking up to it and Nepal has to as well. Subsidizing petroleum products will take away money for other work. So in fact, people who do not own motorbikes, and thus poorer people are subsidizing for people who own motorbikes and car that is unfair.

    I am for completely removing subsidies on kerosene and diesel since the poorest people in Nepal even cannot afford gas cooker and they are indirectly subsizing for richer people.

14. I agree with Rajan Timilsina’s comments. I am USA for couple of months. In USA fuel rate change ( Up & Down )every week. Nobody do such activities. So our people has to understand and government also make very good system for price control.

18. For past 4 years Nepal Oil has lost 16 billion Rs. now how can a country sustain such a massive loss and oil price is increasing day by day in international market. Open your eye and look around the world Nepali days of cheap petrol are gone. Unless we develop alternative fuel, price increase will hit us frequently. Intrenational pressurs (war, Chinese and Indian thrust of petrol) are the main cause of this hike and burning tyre and government cars won’t change anything.

People are bheda…. if this price hike was in kings rule time this will be so useful and good issue to do this kind of things..and demonstration… why they are doing now the same… now is loktantra…any thing can happen… we should keep qute..this is for the development of country… isn’t is my dear loktantrik friends??

    in other countries, there would be peaceful procession against governments despotic decisions, and government would listen to them..

    in nepal, there is no use of peaceful procession, at least they’ve to burn tyres to make them speak.

Hiking of petrolium price might be compulsion or following international order but a civilized government first thinks about people and their probable reaction and realizes the welfare role of state In our case we must classify population in Economical and social basis and see which class is most effecte of price hike. It is obvious that middle class and lower clas population is directly hit. Itis unbearable for these people righet from kitchen. Therefore it cannot be supported until low income level people r properly subsidized . Elite class impose this hike on these group of population who are a great deal of consumers.Our political force never reviews past. It is unfortunate.

    see our country , isnt there any way to spread peace in nepal . the nepalies are really “”murkhha “” they all know that the government is not hiking the fuel prices .its cos the middel east war and other incident . if the government reduce the price nothing happens the oil corporation will not go on credit but all the credit goes upon we all of the nepalies .

    and in the matter of burning tyre the basted protesters think only the city is of thers but they forget about the other people who have the right to take fresh air so we have to stop all this kinds of protest style .

But unfortunatly, got decided. In the history of petrolium hike decidion, it was strong struck hole Nepalese people. So, He must rethink about it and as soon as reduced the price.
