1. I think the point here is not about the world ranking, nor the difference of standard between universities/colleges of Korea and Nepal (not to mention comparison between Korean and US universities). The point lies in the difference in importance given by Korea and Nepal on education.

   The Shah/Ranas never cared about education. Look at the education of their family – how many university graduated can you find? Once democracy was established, it should have been prime responsibility of the new government to put very high emphasis on education – which is the only seed for sustainable development of a democratic society. Even after all that has happened in past decade, education still seems to be last on their criteria. Not just the government – public as well. All they care about is how high the tuition fees are, and never care about the quality, if any, of education and infrastructure.

   Certain tools (like students unions in Nepal) are used during times of need but should have been automatically rendered void once the ends (democracy) were met.

   Hancho (Hangzhou??) ko Alcohol, did you take the Chinese “Gao Kao” (University Entrance Exams) to enter the University?? You sound like you entered the university competing with the local students…

6. One of the important facts is that there is not a single unanimous ranking system in the world. Some agencies look at teacher to student ratio, total budget, number of publications, some look at important inventions universities make, or some look at alumni position, average SAT score….and likes. So, there is not a single answer for that.

   If you are satisfied with your university’s educational system, your university ranks first. There is no dispute for that because you are satisfied. Don’t care what other non-sense ranking institutions rank you. In US, lately many colleges are totally rejecting ranking system, this was a kind of business of these agencies.

   What is your rank among 6 plus billion people in the world? Do you agree if somebody says your rank is 2 billionth? So, don’t run behind this non-sense ranking system.

16. We are really blaming to each other regarding the ranking of Seoul National University. It is not important things for us and different different ranking systems ranked it differentily. Anyway SNU isincluded in top 200 universities in the world till 2006. Follow this link.

    Enjoy the list without Nepalese University. Best campus in Nepal with high reputation are Pulchowk Campus, Institute of Engineering; Dharan Campus- BMMI and Maharajganj Campus- Teaching Hospital. KU has little reputations, but I do not know why?

18. Do not go after world ranking…its not the theme of the post. It is one of the prestigious institutions of Asia and is a showcase of S. Korea’s all round development and very well serve as a model for Nepali leaders and people. We should learn something from them.

    Some of the world rankings shown above ranked uni like oxford and cambridge below unheard institutions. Criteria for different rankings are different; some rankings are even based on total land area which is absurd. Even top Asian unis, are nowhere in the world rankings but they are well regarded in intellect circles and job market abroad.

22. World’s ranking differs according to the publisher. It is not false that SNU ranked within 200. See the link. Though this list is based on Nobel prize winners: but it is also one of accepted list. Some are only based on technology, some are in Medicine, but overall we should have to consider all departments;

    Though the data was fabricated, Professor Hwang and his team has one of the best techniques of cloning. We need techniques, not data.Better learn from SNU team and promote the technique which not only will be helpful in prevting the extintion of several animals species but also for curing so many diseases using animal model and of course to the human being at the final stage.

    i have some korean collegues in london. they said british people are lazy. it means korean work harder than british. i myself think that british people work 6-7 times harder than average nepalese. it must be one reason of the advancement of korea which was almost like nepal until 2030B.s

42. The second picture where you could not understand its meaning is the main gate of Seoul National University. Its shape represents “seo”, “स” letter in Korean alphabel. It is the first letter of the university name in Korean “Seoul Taehakkyo” (Seoul University), which used to be Kukmin Seoul Taehankkyo (National Seoul University) a few years ago. That means in its current Korean name, the univesity does not have “National” word. However, the National word remains in its English name.

46. Its uncommon for Nepalese who are not been to abroad. We compare all things that are in Nepal and other developing countries. So, there is a akash/patal ko difference between Nepali University and University in developed countries. It shows how and why those countries are developed. Area of univ, its infrastrusture for physical fitness/ and play stations for different games are major things. Because they think study in the univ is not only reading books. Students/faculty/staffs need recreation as well which keep them active all time.

    They are sofiscated with all the necessary laboratories and libraries. We can’t imagine their capacity.

    And how people work there, their system, is also different. You can find students in the library even after midnight.

    This is what we have to learn and impliment in Nepal.

    And more over, this is the truth that “investment in education”, as you’ve highlighted (i guess), always returns good profit for the future of the nation and it’s generation. We should observe, understand and implement such strategies to secure the better future of our next generation.

    Now I can say, “A letter from Korea” written by BAN WHI MIN, a 15 years’ old Korean boy which was published in Kantipur Online sometimes (i donot remember the exact date) before was from his own. “देश गुणाको भेष” भनेझैँ, there is no surprise if some-one, such a him, comes with great ideas and philosophy.
