पहिलो पटक युरोप यात्रामा निस्कनका लागि भिसा पाउन त्यति सजिलो थिएन। तर, भिसा नै नपाएर बूढा विदेशमा, बूढी नेपालमा बसेका धेरै नेपाली झैँ आत्तिनु भने परेन। बिना कुनै कार्यक्रम र कुनै संस्थाको स्पोन्सर नभए पनि जर्मन एम्बेसीले आठ-दस वटा कागज हेरेपछि हरियो नेपाली पासपोर्टमा छाप हानिदिएको थियो, पाँच हजार दुई सय रुपैयाँ शुल्क लिएर।
जहाजको सस्तो टिकट खोज्ने क्रममा दिल्ली, आम्सट्रडम दुई तर्फको टिकट पाइएको थियो ५० हजारभन्दा कम नेपाली रुपैयाँमा र त्यही बोकेर म दिल्लीसम्म बसमा जाने कि रेलमा जाने कि प्लेनमा जाने भनेर सोच्दै एक साता बिताएँ। साथीभाइले प्लेन मै जाने सल्लाह दिए। मधेशमा भइरहने बन्दले दिल्ली-काठमाडौँबाट सडक मार्ग हुँदै कहिले पुगिने हो भन्ने कुराको टुंगो हुँदैनथ्यो।

‘त्रिभुवन विमानस्थलमा नै पासपोर्ट नदेखाउनु होला, युरोप जाने भनेपछि हुर्मत लिन सक्छन्’ एक साथीले भनेकोले मैले सामान कहाँ पुर्याउने भनेर सोद्धा दिल्ली मात्र भनेँ। सहारा एअरलाइन्सबाट दिल्ली पुग्दा साँझको ६ बजेको थियो तर आफ्नो आम्सट्रडमको फ्लाइट मध्यरातमा मात्र। युरोपका लागि केही चियापत्ती झोलामा कोचेको थिएँ। त्यसैको बहानामा भारतीय भन्सार अधिकृतले मेरो सामानलाई चार पटक वल्टाइपल्टाइ हेरेर दुःख गरेर प्याकिङ गरेका गिफ्ट प्याकेज पूरै भद्रगोल बनाइदिए। भद्रगोल पनि यसरी बनाइदिए कि राम्रो गरी प्याकिङ गरेका चियापत्ती खोलेर विमानस्थलमै पोखाए। रिसले पारो ताते पनि सहिरहेँ। करिब एक घण्टासम्म एकपछि अर्कोले गर्दै पाँच लगेज जाँच गरेपछि थाकेछन् क्यार, मलाई छाडिदिए। मैले पनि रिस उठेरआफ्नो प्रेस कार्ड देखाएको थिएँ। तर दिल्ली विमानस्थलको दुःख त बल्ल सुरु भएको पो रहेछ।
बोर्डिङ पास लिन जान्छु त पासपोर्ट लिएर केएलएमको भारतीय सुरक्षा अधिकृत गायब हुन्छन् बा! मलाई जर्मन एम्बेसीले कहीँ माग्यो भने देखाउनु पर्छ भन्दै एउटा कागजमा छाप लगाएर दिएको थियो। अंग्रेजीमा नभएकोले कुन भाषामा, के लेखेको छ त्यो पत्रमा भन्ने मलाई केही थाहा थिएन।
सुरक्षा अधिकृतले जान देला जस्तो नलागेर मैले आधा घण्टापछि त्यो पत्र देखाएँ। बल्ल उसले त्यसको फोटोकपी गरेर मलाई छाड्न तयार देखियो। मलाई जस्तै अर्की एक नेपाली बहिनीलाई पनि उनीहरुले दुःख दिइरहेका थिए। मलाई बोर्डिङ पास दिएको १५-२० मिनेटसम्म पनि उनलाई नदिएपछि म टर्मिनल भित्र छिरेँ। ३ सय ५० जनालाई लिएर उडेको विमानभित्र पछि उनलाई देखेँ। कुरा गर्न खोजे पनि उनी अन्कनाइन्। ठीकै छ, पहिलो पटक युरोप जाने भिसा लागेका नेपालीलाई धेरै चेक गरिन्छ , मैले हैरान भएर सोद्धा भारतीय अधिकारीले एक पटक भनेका थिए।
हल्यान्डको राजधानी आम्सट्रडममा अोर्लिएपछि पनि हरियो पासपोर्टले कम्ति झन्झट बेहोर्नु परेन। म जर्मन एम्बेसीले दिएको पत्र हत्तपत्त देखाउन चाहन्नथेँ। यहाँका इमिग्रेसन अधिकारी पनि पासपोर्टको मात्र भरमा नछाडेर कहाँ जाने, किन जाने, पैसा कति छ, होटल रिजर्भेसन देखा भनेर हैरान गर्न थाल्यो। पछाडि लाइनमा उभिएकाहरु पनि छक्क परे होलान्। करिब २० मिनेटको सवालजवाफपछि मैले एम्बेसीले छाप लगाइदिएको कागज देखाएपछि भने कुनै प्रश्न गरेनन् र छाडिदिए।
मलाई त थाहा छैन, तर युरोप आएपछि नेपाली साथीभाइले भने अनुसार देशको विकास र आयस्रोत अनुसार फरक फरक देशको फरक फरक रङको पासपोर्ट हुने रहेछ। रातो सबैभन्दा राम्रो हो भने हरियो सबैभन्दा नराम्रो र हरियो रङको पासपोर्ट भएकालाई धेरै दुःख दिइन्छ।
युरोप छिरेपछि पासपोर्ट देखाउन परेको थिएन। तर, तीन दिन अगाडि युरोलाइन्सको बसबाट पेरिस छिर्ने बेला पुलिसले फेरि मेरो पासपोर्ट माग्यो। खोई के लेन्स हो, आँखामा लगाएर १५ मिनेटसम्म मेरो पासपोर्टलाई घुरेर जाँच्यो र मेरो भएभरको नेपालीसहितको पैसा हेरेपछि किन पैसा लिएर हिँडेको भनेर पो सोध्छ मोरो। मैले सोभिनियर किन्नका लागि क्या भनेर जवाफ दिएँ तर उ कन्भिन्स हुन सकेन। पछि फेरि त्यही ‘ब्रम्हास्त्र’ अर्थात् जर्मन एम्बेसीले छाप लगाएको कागज देखाइदिएँ- लौ जा त। त्यसपछि बल्ल कुन होटलमा बस्ने भनेर सोध्न छाड्यो। नेपालमा महिनाको १२-१५ हजार रुपैयाँको जागिर खानेले के खाएर पेरिस जस्तो महँगो सहरको होटलमा बस्न सक्नु र! नेपाली मित्र ददिराम सापकोटालाई बस स्टेसनमा नै लिन बोलाएको थिएँ।
फेरि पासपोर्टको रङ कै कुरा गरौँ। इन्डोनेसियामा पनि हरियो पासपोर्ट प्रयोग हुँदो रहेछ। आम्सट्रडममा एक युवतीले मेरो पासपोर्ट देखेपछि सोधेकी थिइन् इन्डोनेसियाली हो कि भन्दै। त्यही बहानामा आम्सट्रडममा अध्ययन गर्दै गरेकी ती षोडषी मेरो एक दिने साथी पनि भइन्। कम्तिमा हरियो पासपोर्टले कहिलेकाहीँ राम्रै पनि गर्दोरहेछ गाँठे!
पेरिसबाट फर्कँदा त हरियो पासपोर्ट देखाउन पर्दैन कि ! भोलि बेल्जियम पुग्नुछ। बल्लबल्ल यहाँको VRT नाम गरेको टेलिभिजनले मलाई एक दिन भरी कसरी टेलिभिजनमा काम हुन्छ भनेर देखाउन सहमत भएको छ।
[बेल्जियमको मोबाइलमा अन्यत्रबाट आएको कल उठाउँदा मात्र पनि पैसा उठ्दो रहेछ। दुई सातालाई ५० युरोले पुग्ला भनी चार्ज गरेको त तीन दिन मै सखाप! फ्रान्समा रिचार्ज कार्ड किन्न नपाउँदा केही कलहरु उठाउन सकिनँ, माफ गर्नुहोला]
Dear all,
FYI, all countries in the world do not hold green passports. I agree with Jas Rai and Bidrohi to some extent and it is certain that the person with green passport will be treated differently whilst entering in a developed country. As far as I know that Singapore has no other coloured passport except Red. I will leave you guys to decide why the passports are catagorised as Red, Blue and green.

Well,having gone through the blog it force me to write my personal perspectives.
I had a british friend who was in Airport with a dollar in his pocket.Damn how this begger is allowed to come in Nepal?
We have to show everything 3 puste,our bank balances,properties everything before applying visa to these western country,how dare the citizens of that country visit our country with a dollar in his pocket?
Our politicians and policy makers are so stupid that they can never think in this situation.I remember once Russia immidiately react and harden visa rules to American as soon as white house has harden the rule to russian citizens visiting America.
Who is America or British to marginalized and categorize other countries? In fact american are all migrant from Europe and all over the world.The real citizens are the Red Indians.And these shit people are making rules and regulation and eying on other countries.Why are we crying and begging we are poor nation.No 100% at least every Nepalese have home to live and they can work in their field and never have to stay hungry.
There are many europeans or american who don’t have home and what they belongs are all hire purchase.
Let’s remember it is our mentality that makes us poor,I don’t believe those shits paper and research which state us poor.
We are rich and honour people.
So let’s have high spirit and afraid no one.Why should we tremble before white or black?
There is no reason to do so,if they don’t issue visa respectfully than why do we die for that.Live in your country and work hard.We tends to look other prosperity and like to go to America and when there is security problems we run again to our country.
About Indian,they should be taught lessons,first our cowards politician should stop bowing down to Delhi for powers,they should decide themself what to do in Nepal.
It is we nepali to decide and make our own government.
Even I visited India and I always go with my head high,if any Dhotis ask me question I answer them madar chut,if you touch me you have so many Indians in Nepal.
So don’t tremble in airport,be positive and talk straight,security checking is their right in their country.
So dear diplomats,officers,consular or whoever read this blog please stop rascism,if you do so no country will be save out of this consequences.
The world belong to all the human kind,let’s live in peace with brotherhood and respect not distinguish with Passports,colour,creed or races.

सथिहारू , प्रोपगंडा ले कती प्रभाव पर्दो रहेछा थाह भयो . दिन्दिने औने समाचार ( सेंसर गरेको समाचार ) अति नै misleading छ चाइना मा. तर यसको आंशिक फईदा ( फईदा हो को होइना ?) के भने चाइना मा नेपाली लाई अरु सबै सार्क देशाको भंदा राम्रो मान्छान. सथिहरुले नेपाली को ब्याब्हर भन्ना खोज्नू भयाको होला , हो ब्याबहर र आर्थिक (?) दुबे रुपमा नेपाली हरु सम्पन्न छन भंने मानसिकता छ . चाइना मा सबै भंदा गरीब को भंन्दा इंडियन हरु भंछान. नेपाल तिर आफ्रिका गरीब भंने चलन छ , सायद यूरोप अमेरिका तिर पनि त्यसी भंछान क्यारे . तर चाइना मा इंडियन हरु लाई सबै भंदा गरीब मन्छान . यदि चाइना आयर इंडिया नेपाल भंदा धनि छ भंनू भयो भने त्यों ऊल्लू ठहर्छा . आख़िर चाइना को प्रोपोगंदा न हो . चाइना मा उखान नै छ ‘ श्यांग इन्तुरन यियांग छोंग’ अर्थात “as poor as indians”

I also took flight through Delhi Airport when they ask me and took my passport for verification the guy was telling girl you could go back to your country. I told him while my immigration board has let me go out and had no problem regarding my visa how on earth u tell me and take my passport? you need to check the validity of my visa , u should have mechanism to solve i fu donot understand the visa check my belongings if I carry non favourably u can ask me but threatning me is very unlikable holding that position. ma moscow bata aaudai thiye ani arko Nepal aayeko russianle pani ho ma ho milayo. yes definetly you are right.it is really painfull and also shamefull.but inside nepal still politician are busy with politics.such a painfull situation towards nepali who cares? i still don;t know really why government,partys,politician,in nepal?for what all this?and why people still suporting to the party and politician when still we are not respected as a good people from other country? specially you will feel what is our identity and how low respect we used got it all this we feel in broad.so that too many partys and too much speech doesn,t represent politics and good politician.

I had faced such case in Delhi. I recommend no Nepal should come via Delhi. When I was flied Ktm TO Houston, USA via Delhi, we are 8 people there. The indian had make trouble at every moment when we were there. Lets correspondence us and make a ne block so no more nepal suffered from Delhi. Make a media news about the case, that every nepali is getting humuulation and trouble in indian transition. So sence the government to talk Indian dhoti kuttaS to talk seriously
You are true Deepak ji,this green passport created trouble to me as well when I was travelling from London To Geneva.In London Gatwick Airport,I was with my british colleague in the queue.Apart from me,everyone had red passport.I was 3rd in the queue.everyone behind me were let to proceed in the plane including my colleague who was with me.I was stopped and asked several questions and after several enquiries I was finally let in.This really made me feel insulting attitude towards we thirld world nationalities.

तेती बेला नै नेपाली हरु ती देश हरु मा छिरेर लुकी बसना थाले अनि तेहि बेला नेपाली पासपोर्ट कीनेर अधिकांश भारतीय हरु पनि Europe छिरेर रिफ्यूजी बनेर बसे……
So who is ground root of insult?? Those people….
Who has to suffer?? We and our new generation….
Still remember Europeans respect (show of respecting) humanity and for their low level jobs they keep illegal or marginally legalized foreigners…
But there are growing number of qualified people from Nepal to Europe and still on demand so lets hope they will learn to respect us in future until and unless future Nepali refugees and escapers do not destroy the image of Nepalese. Lets hope Nepal will get better in coming years and we can be proud of ourselves. To remind you in economic standard we are below in Bhutan (per capita 600 USD, average officer level salary around 24000 NRs in Bhutan). So we have to go ahead than Bhutan if not than Maldives in future!

Wow, great discussion about passport color and many funny comments.Actually passport color never represent the economic condition of the nation. Just you guys have given many examples and China has Red passport but you may know that China is still a developing nation. Australia and NZ have blue passport, does it mean that these countries have less income than China??
Dipak ji, you faced the problem not due to color of passport but due to the activities of Nepalese people. How we used to destroy passport and declare ourselves as refugee. So, we nepalese people are losing credibility and you became the innocent victim of that being checked.

दीपक जी तपाईले कुन सिम कार्ड हल्नू भयो बेल्जियममा ? किनकी यहा incoming फ्री त छदै छ , मात्रा होइना कुनै मोबाइल कम्पनिले ल त फ्री मिनेट पनि दिने गर्छ
जस्तो BASE को सिम कार्ड हल्नू भयो भने हरेक चोटी 10 यूरो को Recharge मा minimum ३० मिनेट फ्री base to base outgoing मा पनि हुन्छ ,अनि बेल्जियममा रहेका नेपाली करीब 85 %संग Base को सिम कार्ड छ

यता बिमानस्थल बाटै प्याक गरेको समान त सबै टुक्रा टुक्रा पारेर प्रत्येक कपडाको धागो धागो हेरेर दु:ख दिन्छ नै। अनि कट्टु मात्रै लगाएको मानिसको पनि तल नाङ्गै खुट्टा पनि घण्टौ लगाएर जाँच गर्छ। अब आफ्नो देशमा जस्तो छ अरुलाई पनि उस्ते देख्छ होला नी भारतले कि कसो????
अनि कतै घुसपो पाईन्छकी भनेर घण्टौघण्टा केरकार गरिरहन्छ कहिले पो यस्ले घुस दिन्छ की भन्ने हेतुले।
जीवनमा सबैभन्दा दिकदार र झण्झट अनि सबैभन्दा बढी रिसउठेको भारतको बिमानस्थलमा यस्तो अनुभव कुनै पनि बिमानस्थलमा भोग्नुपरेको थिएन।

खै माथि साथीहरुको कुरा पनि सत्य जस्तो त लाग्छ तर गाँठी कुरा चाही के हो त्यो चाही थाहा पाउन बाँकी नै छ।

Real kuro lekhnu vo, i fully agree. Sala dhoti haru….what do u think of themselves? Nepali haru ta overseas janai sakdainan vanne jasto garchan yr? I also had a very bitter experience in Delhi 3 years ago when i was flying to belgium for my Study. They were asking..like… Scholarship kaise paya tumne? Kitne paise honge? Indian students ko kyun nahi milti yeah scholarship ..and bla..bla…..Ajhai paro tatera aauchha yr when i recall it.
Unfortunately, i got the same route while returning Nepal last year. U know what they did? They reopened my already checked in Luggage from Frankfurt and put another seal with steal wire…how stupid? May be they are thinking their security system is far better than european standards. Achamma chha yr….
I suggest my friends not to fly making transit in delhi. Tara k garnu yr? Nepal ko halat….We all know that NAC and Thai Airways has started their service together…Now we can see…where is Thai airways now and our poor NAC….Thukkaaaa….NAC management….

But, if you look at the following nationals they do have a different color of passport.

India – Dark black
Bhutan – Dark black
Srilangka – Red
Korea (both) – Red
Japan – Red
So, the bottom line is its all depends on your countries economic strength.

I can understand the hurdle you have been through. I have also gone through similar phase when i was going to paris last year for a renowned conference. My professor was travelling with me at the moment. He hold dark blue indian passport. At least i got visa from French embassy at one go after having all documents. My professor’s application was rejected first time. When we landed in Charles Airport in Paris, i was stopped by the police after seeing my passport. One more indonesian student was also stopped along with me. We were taken to investigation room and they verified all the hotel reservations,return ticket and all. In my case i had all the sufficient documents. I had invitation from the conference committee to come to Paris too. The police there even manhandled my passport. After drilling for 1hour they let me go. Soon after i came out of immigration, my professor was waiting there for me. He told me he talked to the immigration clerk saying i am his student and we are here for conference. Alas! the lady there was not willing to listen to him. It was for the first time we were talking in hindi. He told me that these people come very easily to our countries so they do not know all these pain we go through when we goto their country. We can do like them only once our economy is good. Already the EU is in downslope. Let us just hope that they will not do such things for genuine travelers. They do have their own reasons to control illegal immigrants.

I wonder about the special card that you got from German embassy. What type of card they issue other than visa? Is that special for Journalists like you or everyone gets such type of card?

Prakash Ji is not quite right on his explanation of passport colours. Passport colours are in fact mandated by the United Nations. Diplomatic passports aside, general passports are based on regions. For example, North American and countries of the Common Wealth have blue passports, South Asia has green, Eastern European is red and so on. The green passport however is scrutnized heavily than others because for authorotoes who deal with passports on a daily basis, it is associated with the region that does not have much diplomatic grip so harrassing the holder of a green passport is okay and rarely questioned.

I don’t think color of the passport depends on the country’s economic standards. Because, USA/Canada also use green, black and red passport. But the color of passport shows the status of holder. Green and black are standard general public passports and in most of the country red passports are designed for deplomatic and senior officials.
